Why would EDM make that trade? If they won the lottery take Laffy don’t get Chiralli-esque cute, and slap him down next to McDavid and be done.

You guys need depth more than you need an elite player tbh.

The depth is the idea here. Edmonton's in a very uncomfortable cap position right now: the pieces Montréal is offering coupled with the nigh-$10M of cap they're eating gives Edmonton the immediate opportunity to improve it's roster.

Adding Lafreniere without sewering every other asset the Oilers have in order to free up the cap space to acquire said depth doesn't make this team stronger. At least not for next season. Lafreniere might be a cute consolation prize alongside the minimal improvement the team saw in McDavid's eyes, but another year of futility cannot be tolerated.

I'll have an AGM that features a Lafreniere Oilers up shortly. It better displays what I'm on about about how little Edmonton can actually improve if they opt to be patient. Any major changes would occur the season after, and based on not being able to see the future, I can't say for certain what that improvement actually looks like

Would you replace Drouin with Tatar if we add a guy like Poehling in the deal?

I do not control the rate at which Edmonton wins draft lotteries.

Hall wants term and he wants to win. Edmonton fits the bill if they move money. This isn't the same team that discarded him those few years ago.

Extended yes, but you're probably taking Chiasson back too just to make the money work given that Tatar likely costs more than Drouin.

When your team has enough cap left to sign Jimmy Howard as your back up your season is over.

Neal scored more goals than Hall, Domi and Drouin this season.

Minnesota laughs at that deal...

You literally traded away 6 players spent right up to the cap and gave up the most cap friendly production guy in the deal in Lafrienere.

I like it if it works. Not sure Edmonton passes on Laffy even if they need the depth (which I agree with).
