Calgary Fans Would You Make This Deal

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 10, 2020
Published: Aug. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The premise here is that Toronto is moving on from Andersen and has a replacement for him.

Am I correct in understanding that Calgary probably won't make a qualifying offer to Mark Jankowski?

Note that this leaves $7 million to shore up the right side (offense and defense) with 5 players (3 and 2).

No.

Not a value issue. Just would rather spend money or assets elsewhere. I think the Flames can get a cheaper option FA to partner with DR.

They may even just sign Talbot.

Talbot / Ritich at 5-6 million is better cap management for the Flames than Freddy and Dave at 7.75 million. Would let us improve other areas.

I would - especially if that were the price. CGY's defense (at least defensively) is much better than TOR and wouldn't demand as much Freddy. Plus with a b/up like Rittich, the starts would be lessened.

I have a high opinion of @Ledge_And_Dairy 's input (don't know @SAS ), but this seems like a clear improvement over Talbot and Rittich and the price is right. Plus it leaves about $3.5 million in the tank to get a #2 RD.

I might do it, but need to flip Rittich. Don't want a $2.75 million back up if we've traded for a genuine starter.

Also, an extension needs to be inked the minute the trade is finalized, and for no more than $5.5-6.0million AAV.

I think that's exactly where Andersen is.

Dont get me wrong, I have nothing against Andersen. But at the same time I feel like Talbot as proven he more than capable if hes not overworked. I also think if Calgary is trying to acquire a goalie there are better options this off season than a 1 year rental that wont ost assets.

I would have to say NO to that offer.
Main reason is Andersen only has 1yr remaining and then would need to be resigned at a cap hit above his already $5M, so he becomes quite costly in a flat cap world.
I think the only way this would be considered is the Leafs would have to take back some cap money.

Next, Ruzicka is spoke of quite highly and "might" even make the big club out of camp next year. He could easily fill the spot left by Rinaldo or Rieder not coming back.
That's where in my mind the Flames would say no to him being included.
