YzermanHolland Connection and AA

Created by: B090400
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 13, 2020
Published: Aug. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
RFA's
Because of flat cap Mantha accepts 1 year extension at 6M and Bertuzzi signed for 5 years at 4.25M (a little less). Fabbri signed for 3 at 2,5M. Rest of RFA's get qualifying offers for depth and to stock Grand Rapids.
UFA's
Sign Krug to 7.5M for 5 years
Trades:
Holland not going to qualify AA so we bring him back (hoping he returns to 25G form) with Puljujarvi (whose not going to sign in Edmonton) for Helm (a Holland guy who has the speed and more grit that Edmonton needs with 50% retained) and a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. St. Louis has to dump salary to keep Pietrangelo so Allen is available for a 2nd round pick and backup goalie for St. Louis.
NOTES:
Abdelkader becomes player coach (Cleary) buried in GR
Filppula stays to mentor Puljujarvi (Finn on Finn)
AT DEADLINE:
Nemeth goes replaced by Cholowski and McIssac gets a taste
Glendenning goes replaced by Veleno for a taste (future 2C)
Erne goes replaced by Smith

St. Louis is my blast from the past. Graduated from Pharmacy School there during Gary Unger, Plager brothers days. My favorite team in the West but moved to Detroit and became Wings fan when Yzerman drafted in 83.

That’s extremely bad for Edmonton.
Who told you Holland won’t qualify AA
Who told you Pulju isn’t coming back?
Just because We paid two seconds for AA doesn’t mean we can’t expect the same value back.
The ask for pulju is a prospect and a late first.
Helm is useful but not at that cap hit.
This trade makes no sense

Honestly I doubt AA gets qualified however I do think instead they will offer him a 1 year 1.5-2 million deal instead and provide an opportunity to bounce back his value. 3million is too steep considering at best he looked ok on 3rd line. Unfortunately just didn’t work out as planned I’m not going to be critical of holland on that one. If can trade his rights I’d be satisfied with a 2nd and consider the second pick as rental cost because we did use him.

That is a horrendous trade for Edmonton with all due respect. Appreciate the offer but JP is a work in progress for us and am confident holland knows how to handle that situation as he has in Detroit many times. Curious who they were but he’s dealt with this before.

The way the new arbitration rules work gives the player more power (something like if they can’t reach an agreement through arbitration the player still has the option to just take the deal the team brought forward or something idk) so AA has the potential to screw with them, making him more trouble than he’s worth given how bad he was. And apparently Pulju was never really that close to coming back, the team thought he was close and were being optimistic, but Pulju’s camp confirmed they never really were. Friedman talked about these on his latest podcast. I’m not saying this is a good trade at all (I agree it’s pretty bad actually) but yeah that should answer those questions, while nothing here is confirmed, those rumours at least came from a reputable source and seem to make logical sense to a certain degree
