True but teams are not trading for Strome w/ Panarin. They/re trading for the player Ryan Strome has been his entire career a middle 6, playmaking C. That is fair value...
This I can understand more. However, the key point is "this year." We have all seen flash and in the pan one year wonders in the league (see above). Teams will not pay a premium elite d-man price in a trade for ADA unless he shows he can play that way consistently. And I'm happy to keep him (for now) if we can find him the minutes
That's pretty dumb. It fails the simple logic test. This is Strome's first year playing consistently in the top 6. If you want to count someone's true value as how they are with 4th liners as linemates like Strome had in Edmonton (Jujhar Khaira was his main linemate) that's fine but be consistent. If Strome is a 35 point 2 way player when he's with 4th liners and that's his "true value", let's apply that logic to some other guys who have had big seasons once they found Elite linemates
If Sam Reinhart is a 45-50 point player with Ryan O'Reilly as his main linemate for a few seasons, Then became a 65-70 point player next to Eichel. What's the difference in point production in moving from being on a line with Ryan O'Reilly to being on a line with Zemgus Girgensons? More than 10 points? If it's more than 10 points then there's really not a good argument for Reinhart to be worth more than Strome....
If Elias Lindholm is a 45-50 point player in the top 6 alongside Jeff Skinner in Carolina playing PP1..... How much of a producer is he with Marcus Kruger? Would you say the difference between Kruger and Skinner as a linemate is probably at least 10 points?
We can go on like this, but the point is that as much as you can try and say that Panarin boosted Strome's performance this year, his bottom 6 linemates equally dragged it down before. And selectively applying the logic is dumb. If you want to see someone who was barely an NHLer and is now being carried by elite linemates offensively, you might have better luck looking at
Dylan Strome
Not sure what you mean by consistency from Deangelo's consistency..... he was top 20 among dmen in points/60
last year. All while dragging around Marc Staal as his primary defensive partner. Not sure how much more consistent you can get.
