Shake the Leafs PLUS cap space

Created by: kman0101
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 14, 2020
Published: Aug. 14, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
admittedly, left side up front is weak... but overall... here is the thinking. Tavares, Matthews/Marner should all make the players aroudn them better... Just like Sundin used to do with Renberg/Hoglund, or Okposo/Moulson.

Quick is a gamer... He will be the steady, clutch Ed Belfour type playoff performer. AND he will provide cap stability in net for the next three years.

This is a better balanced roster, but needs help on the left side.

I hear you. I love Freddie and he isnt the issue but he has one year left and will want more cake... I updated the explanation to help a bit... Quick/Campbell will be a solid tandem, and the back end has a nice blend of youth and experience... instead of Reilly, Muzzin and 4 other 6th Defensemen. just my thoughts... i love the forum

I like having Klingberg on the back end, but I hate having Kapanen in the top 6.

Agreed... dont love the forward mix... but does Perry and Tavares click enough to have him move up and down the right side? they are basically the same speed lol ....and yes that's not great either...

Oh good, now we're pretending Quick is good again.
More expensive, significantly older than andersen and locked in to a terrible contract for the entire flat cap era . What a dumb move that would be

i would argue la's defense is better than torontos yet quick was worse than andersen... reuniting the kings goalie tandem in Toronto would be horrible for toronto. I would love to see that as a bruins fan.

Lol LA would have to give a piece up just to get a team to take Quick, and even then, they probably can't do it for another year. But great you have cap space left over just sitting there.

I like with the 2 RFA contracts you made.

I was thinking that Mikheyev was going to demand a big contract but we saw who he was in the playoffs. If he is looking for more than $1.5 MIL on a 3 year contract then we need to trade him or let him walk.

I would hope Dermott would sign for less like $1.5 - $1.65 MIL on a 3 year contract but I could see him pushing for a "Holl" $2 MIL contract.

I was thinking the league minimum next year was going to $750,000 but I suspect the folks here at CapFriendly would enforce that in the options creating a AGM so I guess I am mistaken regarding what Spezza has to be paid.

Quick qualifies for the expansion draft; Andersen wouldn't, because his contract has only one year to run. Quick will be the perfect back-up to Cal Petersen for the next three years.

We have only three NHL-quality RD's in the entire system; if we trade one of them, we would have to go out and get a free-agent RD.

We have two Andreas Johnsson's on the roster already: Alex Iafallo and Adrian Kempe. We don't have the playing time for a third one.

To sum up: one year of Freddie Andersen and a LW we don't need in return for three years of Jonathan Quick, a starter at RD and the 66th overall pick. In five words, that is a horrible trade for the Kings.

thanks for this... We see fairly quick turn arounds for teams like Vancouver if its done right. Cap space can get eaten up fast. Quick's cap hit, among others would become a burden as a very expensive back up. Would you see any scenario where Andersen for Quick happens? I think the Leafs need grit, winners, and experience... i look to stanley cup pedigree, or stanley cup experience... much like Tampa had done in the past with acquiring all those NYR players to assist their core when they made their run for the cup...
