Sabres Flames Blockbuster

Created by: WCSF
Team: 2020-21 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 17, 2020
Published: Aug. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There have been rumours over the past months that the Sabres covet Monahan and/or Gaudreau. They also have a hole on left defence. A trade of this size is obviously highly unlikely. This is just an exercise in:

1.) Gauging value. Are the Sabres giving up enough in this scenario or does it fall short value-wise?
2.) Are the Sabres parting with two much futures in Cozens and 8th O/A in 2020?
3.) Could the Sabres make this work cap-wise? It looks like it could work for 20/21. In 21/22 they would need to move Risto or Miller and likely one other vet contract in order to get Dahlen, Jokiharju and other RFA's signed.
4.) Would this make the Sabres not just a playoff team but a contender? There is a huge question mark in net. There is a lack of grit up front and perhaps insufficient depth after line 3 (though Mittlestadt, Asplund and Ruotsalainen could contribute). As desperate as the Sabres are to get in the playoffs, this isn't a trade you make just to be "competitive" for a playoff spot.

Sabers get an 80 point center, a 100 point left winger and a solid top 4 defensmen for a 60-70 point player, an ok top 4 defensmen and a bunch of maybes. Anyone who this this is good for the flames have never watched a hockey game before and clearly aren’t a hockey fan

Gaudreau (2 years left) and Monohan (3 years left) fell off this year, Hanafin = Montour despite you trying to word it in your favor. So Buffalo gives up a 60-70 point RW under RGA control for up to 8 years, a RFA dman thats opposite handed from the one youre trading - thats a wash, then a top 5 prospect in the league currently, one of the best d prospects in the league currently and 8 OA, for 2 years of Gaudreau and 3 years of Monahan playing in a lesser role - so we would see a decline in production, both may be declining and will want way too much to stay. Complete joke for Buffalo

Montour is 26 Hanifin is 23 so maybe they are the same skill wise right now Hanifin is 3 years younger. Also there’s a thing called resigning I wouldn’t expect a non hockey fan such as yourself to know what that is but that means when a players contract is over he can get resigned by the same team. Flames are in a win now mode so they wouldn’t do this trade. Learn something about hockey before posting please

Let me help solve this... this trade is bad both ways.... not to mention blowing up your roster.

There is a smaller trade that could fit both ways. Would involve montour going to the flames but flames don’t have the pieces (or wouldn’t want to give them up). Would have to be a package of futures for buffalo to flip, or a 3 way.

Hanifin may be better than Montour but this trade doesn’t make any sense for Buffalo any more than it does for Calgary. Insulting someone else’s intelligence doesn’t mean you are smarter than they are.

Sabres take that and run. They actually have a chance to make some noise during Eichel's reign in Buffalo for once.

Any trade that involves Cozens is a joke. We haven't even seen him play in a Buffalo uniform. Hes been rated the top prospect in all of hockey I believe when they did their end of the year rankings. I would not give up on that, i dont care who it would bring in. Hes cost controlled for so many years and lets watch him turn into that Mark Schieffle type of player.

Classic case of overvaluing "maybes and picks" once again by Buffalo fans.
Buffalo would be STUPID to not take this and run.

CGY would be STUPID to do this and roll the dice on the unknowns + Sam.
Trade is so far from realistic its brought out the best in everyone here lmao.

I believe you have already proven my point. Calling everyone else an idiot does not prove you are smart at all.
