Description

Okay so I chose Klefbom as a trade partner for a Top 4 D but the reality there are a number of options to explore. The fact is I don’t think Domi is a good fit in Montreal but has great offensive upside. Bergy and him are going to have a tough time agreeing on a contract. Ergo, he’s the best winger for us to move. Spice up the package with a young NHL ready prospect in Mete and throw in a 2nd and I think you got a compelling package for most teams to at least go off of for a top 4 d man swap. Adding a top 4 guy makes sense. I don’t think Romanov should get top 4 minutes right away and with the expansion draft looming and Petrys pending UFA status it makes sense to invest in the blue line. Domi’s production could easily be replaced by a guy like Hoffman who is a much more clinical goal scorer and would make a nice line mate for a creative Suzuki/Drouin combo. Will Montreal be able to overpay enough to sign a coveted UFA... that’s another story. But worst case of you miss out on Hoffman there is other intriguing goal scoring options that will come at a cheaper cap. In the long run I predict Tatar will test free agency freeing cap room to resign the likes of KK, Gally, Danualt. His goal scoring will be replaced the next season by a then NHL ready Caufield. Also enough cap flexibility to go out and acquire a backup for Price, but I’m of the mindset that Lindgren is good enough and the KHL guy Demchenko wasn’t brought in to push a proven AHL level keeper in McNiven out of an AHL spot. He’ll be given a chance in training camp for the #2. Also don’t want Poehling wasting away on the 4th line. Either give him a spot in the top 9 or package him off. Bring in a guy like Riley Sheahan who is big, fast, and wins face offs to play on a shutdown line with Lehky and Evans.

Yeah I think this is pretty close to even so close in fact that I don't think any Montreal fans could argue that it is not enough. About all that is missing in my mind is a 5th-7th from Edmonton. So like I said not worth arguing about

Yeah I don’t know the validity of Klefbom being actually available. Some Sportsnet guys mentioned he might be but as someone observing the Oilers from the outside, seems like a weird guy to move on from at this time. At the same time though, I know this as a base package should be enough to attract a top 4 D from some team. I just like Klefbom’a game so I kind of picked him out of a handful of guys haha!
