I can’t see Toronto parting ways with Nylander for Risto. 2021 first and Tage are decent, but I feel like they’d want someone signed longer and a bit more defensively responsible.

I wonder if Fleury would be willing to waive to let the trade go through.

Leafs would want Cozens or the 2020 1st+

Risto isn't a good fit. We need a defensive defenceman not an offensive one that is a defensive liability.

After the comment that his agent said.. ohh definitely going.. Lehner is going to get the starting job... Deboer doesn't like Fleury apparently.

Yeah I’d be surprised to see him not get moved as well. Funny thing is if they win the cup it’d be his third cup as the backup and not starter. Cool to have cups but kinda pathetic he keeps getting relegated to backup when it counts. If anyone wants to make fun of Hank go ahead, but put him on any of those teams and I guarantee you he could’ve won as the starter, dude never had that kind superstar talent in NY.

I like your thinking. I know Dubas mentioned that weird quote about Risto and the offseason back near the deadline. I just am kinda thinking about fair value building off a Risto for Nylander base because I can't see Buffalo moving Risto, in a package or solo, for less than a top 6 forward(C/RW) or a forward with top 6 upside. And I figure Nylander is still the "cheapest" of the big 4 as far as Leafs Management is concerned.

Thanks! I honestly think it really works for both teams and is fair in value. I've toyed with having Vegas retain a little money but I wouldn't turn the deal down without any retention.

I agree with what you're saying but that's two of the Sabres 6 "untouchables" in my mind. I would look elsewhere before putting Eichel, Dahlin, Cozens, 8th overall, Reinhart or Jokiharju on the table. Just my honest opinion.

I would be surprised if he blocked any team that doesn't already have a clear-cut number 1 goalie or isn't located in Detroit.

So all your most desirable assets are untouchables but you want Nylander whose better than over half the guys on that list?

Only deal that works without those guys included is 2021 and 2022 1sts unprotected for Nylander.

That's fair, like I said I was trying to build off of Risto for Nylander and thought I got pretty close value wise

We gave back about 6.5 in Hutton and Montour depending what that contract works out to so it's really only about 3 million in cap

Nah Buffalo doesn't get more. Fleury isn't a pure cap dump, he can still play some really solid hockey.

I think both sides win the Vegas trade.

There's no way Vegas can sign Lehner and have MAF as a backup at 7M so yes he is a cap dump. This is a time where the teams that can afford to take a big contract have to look for the sweetner. McNabb is not a sweetner. The Sabres can sign a UFA for the same or a touch less than McNabb. When Toronto needed to unload Marleau what did it cost them...a 1st. I think if the Sabres take MAF, they get a high end prospect also. Hutton is only for a year and Montour is maybe 1 to 1.5M over McNabb and is younger and controlled. Sabres aren't winning the cup so at best MAF might help challenge for a playoff spot at best. Don't think Kimmy would approve of taking a 36 yo goalie at 7M for 2 yrs...they're going cheap as it is.

While I get the sentiment we need a #1 goalie if we're going to compete and MAF is that. McNabb is a rock solid Defensive DMan and excellent penalty killer on the left side at a reasonable pricepoint. I'd love to either have Vegas retain a million or two or snag another prospect but I think this is pretty fair

There are other teams that would take MAF. I think he'd be great on the Sens.

The Sens do have cap to spend as well that is very true!

Not just for his goaltending skills which probably aren't worth 7M (probably closer to 4.5M) but he's a great team player and locker room guy.

Under the circumstances Vegas would have to ante up....trading MAF benefits Vegas more than it does Buffalo. There is no way they can sign Lehner without dumping MAF. You can do Montour for McNabb but when it comes to MAF, the Sabres would have to make Vegas pay dearly. If 1yr 6M gets a 1st, 7M for 2yrs is worth a touch more which I think is a prospect that is NHL ready.

It's not gonna be Krebs, Glass or Hague so who is your suggested prospect then if you think we need to add one to make the deal fair.

Since you've taken their best prospects off the board then maybe a roster player or a 1st. Maybe a RW'er, I know you traded for Nylander but after today's trade if Toronto trades Nylander I think it's a trade like today's, high draft picks and prospects. I think they are gearing up to add Pietrangelo if he goes to market. If he doesn't they go elsewhere for a top pair RD and they will have draft picks they can use in the trade.
