Hamonic is not the defender he used to be, as a habs fan I’d laugh to that deal it’s horrendous maybe something like 2x2mil

I would say Sabres make out really well in this and Montour hasn’t been utilized there. Really like this Sabres lineup depending on the fill at 2nd LD and fourth line

Skinner, Eichel, Reinhart
Johansson,, Cozens, Olofsson
Johnsson, Mittelstadt, Kahun

Dahlin, Miller
X, Ristolainen
McCabe, Jokiharju

4x4 really isn’t that much of a risk and if it doesn’t work out Seattle will take him/trade him at a later date

Improvement at backup goaltender at/around $1.5 mil, bottom pairing defenseman to replace Jack Johnson when he is moved, and a 2nd is bad? Seems like your standards are too high.

If anything this move is just OK for the Leafs (more cap clearing to build defense and looking towards future) and very good for CAR/PIT.

Maybe for Murray... but that's Jarry, who should be the starter for the next decade and is coming off an unbelievable season

They also don't need help at backup, DeSmith is cheap, has term, and is more than capable

You're also assuming they move JJ, which by all indications they aren't, so Dermott makes no sense for Pittsburgh - especially when they already have Riikola and POJ to fill that hole

This is just assuming they did move Jarry, this would work and be fair value. I think they’ll keep him and move Murray probably to Colorado or another team that has significant cap space

Also you’ll definitely need a legitimate backup going into next season. Saw MTL do the same, not sure how schedule is going to turn out. Could be games every other day. DeSmith is not that good lol

Its not the worst idea, but you have 2 rw on their off wing here, and mittelstadt isnt an nhl center (whether yet/at all tbd).

I’m assuming you mean Olofsson and Kahun. Kahun natural position is RW, Olofsson has played there before and is better suited imo. Mittelstadt needs to play next season before Sabres choose to dump or keep him. Think they should be more inclined to move him while they still can.. gives me Sam Bennett vibes for sure

If they were to move Jarry, it would be for an overpay that helps them win now. A 2nd and Dermott is neither of those.

DeSmith compares favorably to Campbell... not sure where the take that he isn't capable comes from

Not to be rude but DeSmith is nowhere close to Campbell lol. Closer to Brossoit or Subban then he is Campbell. That’s bold my dude

Almost identical career stats ? You clearly know absolutely nothing about DeSmith, he has better SV% than Campbell in the AHL and NHL with decent sample sizes in both leagues

Yes because stats tell the whole picture..

No one would consider DeSmith anywhere close to Campbell besides Penguins fans lol

How else would you propose comparing goalies? Just a horrific take

You are right that Pens fans prefer the goalie with the better stats, do Leafs fans not ?

If you go by stats alone for any player at any position you’re doing it wrong.

Especially when it comes to goalies, which is the position that is most dependent on the team as a whole and defense. You’re going to argue Campbell’s NHL stats, where he’s been on absolutely dreadful teams, to DeSmith who has been on championship calibre rosters? Which doesn’t make sense since Campbell’s stats are better playing with much less to work with? Campbell has a 2.58 GAA and a .916 save percentage while DeSmith has a 2.66 and a .917 save percentage. Fourteen of DeSmiths career total of 50 games were in the 2017-18 season on a championship roster. Campbell has played all but seven games for LA who have been a tire fire for years now

Disagree with me all you want but calling my take “horrific” when you’re using stats alone is disingenuous, especially when those stats are wrong

Sabres trade is fair from a value standpoint, but I don't think it's a good fit. The one thing Buffalo doesn't need is another left shot winger.
