Strome is our 2C Answer - No Trades

Created by: NYR_Mike
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 7, 2020
Published: Sep. 7, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I am probably in the small small population of people that think our 2C problem is a mirage and think that we should lock up Strome long term. Probably a little aggressive on the term but think the AAV makes up for it.

Could also argue that putting him on a 1 year prove it deal to ensure that last year wasn't a fluke also probably makes sense.

If you give him a 1 year deal he goes straight to UFA

Strome sucks. Take him off Panarin's line and he's a 35 point 3C.

Yup no doubt, just thinking back to the Hayes situation. Brooksy let us know that before the deadline that they were in talks with Hayes about an extension, a report of course but think hes pretty good with his "rumors" and obviously he became too rich for NYR. Maybe it works out where they extend him mid-season, just a thought but agreed he goes right to UFA.

FIre Strome into the sun before doing anything besides either: Trading him now OR Signing him to a 1 yr deal and trading him at the TDL with 50% retained for a haul to a contender.

I like Strome but you can't extend him long term. When the first top 6 success story a guy has is when he's playing with a Hart finalist winger, you can't just give him the bag. At most I would give him another year. But a guy who is already a top 6 center without Panarin on that line and see how more deadly it becomes

Brooks reported in a mailbag that the Rangers don't think Strome is really the answer long-term, but they won't move him until they have a replacement for him ready.

Basically, if they can get a Cirelli/Danault/whatever player to be the 2C, then they'll move him, otherwise they'll bridge him and see if Chytil can overtake him.

Hey I am all for getting Cirelli, curious to see what the package for that would look like though! I am in the party that O/S's do not work, they get a lot of hype. Would love to see Chytil jump in and take it though, hoping to see a big step up from him this year. Bright future for this club I will tell you that much.
