Stamkos

Created by: SankFeravalli
Team: 2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 10, 2020
Published: Sep. 10, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I may get carved by Bolts fans for even suggesting this, but...

If Tampa wins the Stanley Cup this year without Steven Stamkos, does Brisebois consider shopping him?
His $8.5M cap hit would go a long way to helping them resign younger players, particularly Sergachev and Cirelli. They seem to have the center position covered with the emergence of Point as a legit 1C, plus Cirelli, Johnson, and Gourde.
I have no idea what the market would look like for Stamkos. 4 years left at $8.5M would be a major undertaking, and I would assume that only contending teams would be interested. His age and his injury history could be cause for concern. But his skill and offensive production are elite.
Obviously his NMC would mean he would have to approve any trade.

It is a fair question. He is the captain, signed a team friendly contract giving up about 2 million a year. Respected by team, management and fans. Trading him would harm moral and send the wrong message. His salary could be better used but do not see it happening.

i think personally, id trade Kuch before Stamkos, Higher cap for longer term, Kuch is a very talented player but he makes too many mistakes and lazy plays but people forget all about that cause he sneezes out points like its nothing, granted it looks like he has matured a lot since last year with his suspension in the playoffs. Yes Stamkos gets hurt at the wrong times it seems but he set the tone of take a pay cut to win and everyone has followed suit of that

As daring as this question sounds I don’t think it’s crazy to consider at all.
