Description
Before everyone gets mad at me let me just say that every fan on here is strongly biased for their own players. The vast majority of trades end up being underpayments, and because of this I did my best to try to look past my own bias towards habs players and put down what I believe to be fair value. To back up my position: over the past two seasons Domi has objectively been a better hockey player than Laine. He's put up more points than Laine has and he contributed more than just offence. Even though he's getting more well rounded, Laine is still very much a one dimensional player. Jeff petry even though he's getting old is still a very good defensemen, at worst he is one of the best 2nd pairing defensemen in the league although most people would put him as a first pairing kinda guy. And Montreal would only move on from him if they were able to sign someone like krug as a free agent. Jordan harris is one montreals top prospects(#4 on wheeler's organizational rankings).

I can't wait to hear Windjammer's take on this trade.

"The Winnipeg Jets' asking prices for Patrik Laine and Nikolaj Ehlers are unreasonably high." - Murate Ates (The Athletic - Winnipeg)... That trade is not likely going to do it.

Personally, I would consider but not sure if Chevy does for two reasons.

1. As you mentioned Petry is still a real good defenceman, but the jets would be looking for a more permanent fix on the backend.
2. He would probably ask for 1 of Suzuki, KK, Romanov, or Caufield to be in the deal.

God these Laine trades are ****ing terrible. A UFA with one year left, RFA with one year left, a prospect and a first that’s not even this year. Sweet baby Jesus this is bad

We can't trade firsts from this year anymore, for some reason.

A very biased explanation of the trade at the beginning of this while thing. Lol. Comparing Domi to Laine, that is hilarious.

As every unbiased fan has said. You start with Suzuki and keep adding from there.

I wasn't comparing their value I was comparing their on-ice performance. If you look at literally any WAR model Domi is better. Obviously I didn't try to treat this as a 1 for 1, Petry is most definitely the better player between the two, also throwing in a really good defensive prospect for the long term. I can understand asking for Romanov but thinking that Montreal would trade Suzuki+ is hilarious. The whole reason Domi is rumored to leave is so that Montreal can make space for kk and Suzuki.

The idea that Winnipeg would trade Laine for a rental, a meh prospect a 2 years of Domi is hilarious. Domi is much closer to say Copp in value than he is Laine.

It starts with Suzuki and Montreal keeps adding from there.

Apparently you guys can’t trade anything of quality anymore, for some reason.

I feel like both of you guys have some insanely unrealistic expectations about what you're gonna get back for Laine/Ehlers/Connor. If a trade does end up happening, no team is gonna give up much more than this.

Which is why they likely aren't getting traded. If the Jets don't get what they want they won't trade any of them. If they did trade trade them, this offer would easily be beaten.

Even if Windjammer is Laine's mother, I have to agree with her on this post.

I feel like Montreal fans have a very unrealistic expectation of what it would cost to get Laine/Ehlers/Connor. There is a constant barrage of garbage offers of rentals, aging UFAs, RFAs with one year and arbitration rights, prospects that are years away etc etc, yet fans refuse to offer Up something of actual quality. Something that would hurt both sides. Believe it or not, I have zero issues giving up Laine, and really don’t expect as big of a return as you would expect, but the difference is I expect any trade to hurt, BOTH side. A Suzuki (or KK) for Laine would do just that, or equivalent 1-1. Hurts both sides but fills a need for both sides. Your (fans) are adamant on ridding yourselves of Domi and Danault because they have expiring deals, same with Petry We want a young C or D coming back in the same tier of Laine. That’s it! A fair offfer of QUALITY FOR QUALITY, not 4 quarters for a dollar.
