If I were Tampa, I’d really take that in a heartbeat. They’re already proving in these playoffs they can do it without him. That’s a fabulous return too.

You can't send strome back to them, cause if they were to move stamkos (which they won't) they won't want a lot of cap in return. So maybe trade strome for picks and use those for the trade?

My thinking is that he isn’t their star any longer he’s expandable. We send them 2 firsts a good d prospect and strome

I mean 2 firsts and at least one damn good prospect is a decent return at stammers age and injury proneness.

Just because they have other stars doesn’t mean he’s not still fantastic lmao, he was still easily on pace for 40 goals and 90 points this year. His injuries aren’t concussion related so it’s reasonable to expect him to bounce back from them fairly easily with proper rehab. It would take at least 1 of Lafreniere/Kakko, one of Miller/Lundkvist, a 1st, and another couple good prospects to even tempt Tampa, they can easily clear cap in other ways. And that’s if you can convince Stammer to waive.

Okay, but what you’re also forgetting is that we live in the salary cap world. A COVID salary cap world no less. Stammer is a great talent and his statistics do speak volumes, but sometimes you have to make hard decisions so you can both be set for the future and compete in the present. Not to mention, as you said, there are other ways to clear space. But none of those ways can get the kind of wild return that stammer would get that could help your present and future. This trade is at least a great template for a stammer trade. I’d maybe ask for lundkvist in return, but this isn’t half bad. Point and cirelli are gonna a good 1-2 punch for the lightning for the future.

Yeah but Stamkos consistently outperforms his contract. If he went to UFA and got less than 11 he would need to fire his agent. Point+Cirelli are obviously fantastic but if you make the decision to trade Stammer instead of 2-3 of Killorn/Gourde/TyJo/Palat/Coburn/Paquette then it will be for a massive return that makes them competitive for most of the next decade

You are right, if you can find a way to trade 2 or 3 of those names, go for it. I still think the return on stammer is obviously better. But in the case of killorn, palat, and gourde, I think the playoffs have really re-raised their value. The ONLY concern I have with stammer is his playoff performances. Simply put, he NEVER shows up in those times of need. 2015 cup final for one and the 2018 conference finals for another.
