Description
After a good season the Philadelphia Flyers have been eliminated at the hands of the Islanders in 7 games. The team have a good mix of young player and veterans and I think they're ready to take the next step. They're ready to become the top team in the metro division. Farabee looks ready to become a top 6 player, Lindholm could play on the third line just like Aube-Kubel. I think frost gets a look in the 3rd line as well. Since I've say Lindholm, Farabee and Aube-Kubel plays on the 2nd and 3rd line, Giroux, Voracek, Konecny are are the top wingers, their's no place in the lineup for JVR and I don't think Philly wants to paid someone 7M to play in their 4th line. So I'm pretty sure he gets trade to a team that needs to reach the floor. I think this team is New Jersey. They need to reach the floor and someone to score goals and even though JVR production has decline I think he could be a important player for New Jersey. In echange Philly would want Zacha. He never seemed to find his place in Jersey, so perhaps they take a chance on him and if it don't happen at least they get rid of some salary. Let's not forget he was taken 6th overall in 2015
Before Mtl trade to get Edmundsson, I could have seen a trade between Mtl and Philly involving Gostisbehere. I think Phllly try one more season with Ghost on the 3rd line. They need his offensive touch even though he's risky on his own zone. That's why they pair him with Hagg on the 3rd pair. We saw Philly having trouble to score in the postseason so keeping their best offensive d-man is important for them. Plus he could still play on the second or even first powerplay.
After that they'll go find a backup to play behind Hart. He's alreayd the clear #1 so they won't find someone to play a tandem. Hart is very young and can play 60-65 games without a problem so it's going to be a clear backup. In my agm I,ve sign Dell but it could be anyone that will sign around 1.5M.
As I said the mix of veteran will help the younger player to growth and I don't expect a major dip in production from the elders players so I don't expect major changes for this team in the offseason.

NJD is not dealing Zacha. No need to. But they would take JVR if PHI retains ~$2 million.

2 million retained over 3 years is a Hell no for the player JVR is. I agree he isn't worth Zacha and a 2nd, but all of these trades involving high retention and high payments to deal his contract are way off base as well

I not saying PHI needs to pay anything...they deal JVR, retain some money, and get some cheaper assets (other than Zacha) back.

Especially in a flat cap, retaining 2 million over 3 years as a competitive team to ship off a guy that is more than likely going to score 25-30 goals next season no matter who he plays for is just brutal. If Philly were to have to retain any more than 1 million it either needs to be a trade where Philly adds more and gets a much better player , or they just keep him. 2 million retained over 3 years for picks and prospects would be the worst move they could make

I can see how it hurts. But PHI clearly wants to move him for some reason.

Some reason...watching him as a fan when he's not scoring is frustrating, I can't imagine being the GM and realizing the guy before you gave him 7mil a season to score 25 goals in like 17 games and take the other 65 nights off. He's like Wayne Simmonds, he'd get hot, score 6 goals in 4 games and then go cold, but Simmonds brought more to the team than just scoring. He brought other elements that made him noticeable even when he didn't find the back of the net. JVR is not physical, fast, doesn't really forecheck, doesn't do much in the defensive zone, so literally if he doesn't tip a puck in from 4 or 5 feet out you wouldn't know he played most nights. I love JVR, super nice guy (which I think is also frustrating because you see his size and imagine if he was more aggressive and played with a little snarl how he'd be a great PWF) and I'm glad he got paid, but the Covid Cap situation is really making that contract a bit too much to deal with while improving the team. Like you said, there are plenty of young players ready for bigger roles, so allocating 7 mil for a bottom 6 FWD really isn't adding much value.

Also, no offense to Claude Giroux or Farabee, but I'd like to see Lindblom on that top line with Couturier, he was leading scorer before his diagnosis. If he can return to that form or even close to it hes a 30 goal scorer and needs more than 3rd line minutes. Also would like to see Giroux and Frost together, moving G down would give him some more rest as he gets older and putting him with young Frost would be a cool way to bring the rookie in and have a mentor in G to show him along, similar play styles so it would be neat. They had some chemistry and played together in the short time Frost was called up this season. All in all I think this is pretty realistic. They might try to move JVR, I think they bring Elliot back, but I don't see them being big players in free agency. Cap situation is going to necessitate promoting from within and they've got guys who can step in and play.

I don't see Philly retaining much of anything. If anything else, they'll attach higher picks or a good prospect to get rid of JVR in full. At most they retain 1m. At least that's how I see it with the flat cap in place.

My exact thoughts. I think a 3rd and a mid for a full JVR for Wood is about even value
