What the Habs should do Detailed and realistic

Created by: Sorbet
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 15, 2020
Published: Sep. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Caufield will sign and report to Laval if Wisconsin don't play their season as reported by himself in an interview. He also confirmed that he wouldn't play in the OHL.

Edmundson contract is reportly around 3.5M$ if the length is 5 years and around 4M$ for 3 years.

Trade bait are Domi, Tatar, Mete and Juulsen to shed cap and/or bring other players in.
Bergevin will keep a lot of depth in the AHL because the season will be condensed and he doesn't want to run into injuries problem. Poehling might start on the 4th line if he's ready.

Ideally i'd like the Habs to go get an establish bottom 4 puck moving defenseman, but with Romanov and Edmundson in, other changes will be on the offense first.

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Paquette, Cédric
  2. 2020 6th round pick (OTT)
TBL
  1. 2020 4th round pick (WPG)
  2. 2021 5th round pick (OTT)
Additional Details:
The Bolts will be looking to shed cap in offense with pickups like Coleman and Goodrow with lower cap hits.

Paquette is a good exemple IMO, but Montreal should just target a 4th line center with good faceoffs and defensive skills to play on the PK and help out Danault.
2.
MTL
  1. Laine, Patrik
  2. 2021 6th round pick (WPG)
WPG
  1. Domi, Max
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (CHI)
  3. 2021 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
If Domi is traded, the other team will resign him. He's looking for something around 6M$ per year for 5-6 years.

Laine is my personal choice (because I like him lol), but any other top 6 scoring winger 28 year old or younger will do the job. Habs could offer a little more for Laine.

At least 20 teams will be offering around a 3rd or more for Paquette.

That Laine deal however is just...LOL

id give a 3rd for Paquette too, but considering Allen went for a 3rd and that Tampa will probably want to shed salary, i think it's fair. Also the player doesn't need to be Paquette, but someone like him for that kind of price.

As for Laine, i said that MTL could offer more like maybe a 1st, but i doubt it. Laine trade stock is not too great right now and will most likely ask for too much money so the Jets won't be able to resign him without parting with other core players that they value more than Laine. IMO it's not that bad of a trade since Pacioretty got traded for a B+ prospect (at the time), Tatar (a cap dump) and a 2nd. Pacio is arguably more valuable than Laine. Mete or something else could be added since the Jets need dman.

i dont you critiquing the trade but you gotta at least give an explanation. Like let me ask you this is Laine more valuable than Mark Stone? look what Vegas gave up for him, the problem here isn't what Laine is worth at his max potential. At his current market value and the fact that they might have to overpay him, Laine could go for less.

Don't think Cheveldayoff even takes time to say anything, he'll just hang up the phone

Honestly maybe i undervalue Laine, but what do you think Jets should get back for Laine? im genuinely curious

This is a really weak offer for Laine, considering Domi's contract situation the Jets coud just keep Laine and have the better player, no guarantee Domi will want to stay long term in Winnipeg, those are pretty meh picks that add little overall from a Jets perspective, they'd easily reject this.

Habs won’t waste a 3rd or 4th or 5th pick to land a 4th liner
Evans will be 4c next season

What I consider a good offer for Laine is :

Max Domi + Victor Mete or Ben Chariot + Ryan Poehling + Jayden Struble or Jordan Harris + 1st round pick + 2nd round pick
