obviously GMS value leafs forwards highly. if kapanen/Coleman/goodrow go for what they did, nylander gets a kings ransom

Couldn't you say the same about Sundqvist? 3 yrs of his prime at 2.75m. Scores at a similar rate as Kapanen but excels defensively. Can play center or wing.

I believe TML should keep the Core 4, skip Piertangelo and for his 8m + 2M from Holl land two middle Pair Ds who will backup Rielly in his own end and Muzzin per se so he wont wear himself off in first 30 Games as he must with Holl beside him.

Assets to be used to get those 2 Ds should be 2020 1st, 2021 1st, Hyman, Johnsson, Kerfoot and Dermott. Team was built on F depth with neglecting D problems and it didnt work out for last 2 Season, one of which is already window for Cup.

Sounds like a solid plan. Tbh I have concerns about Pietrangelo's contract if he signs with the Blues - would have a competitive team but then a series of tough decisions loom for the next 5 years. Mostly thanks to giving the money that should've gone to our core players to Faulk and Scandella, but I'm tired of thinking about that :/

Pietrangelo will want 8 x $9.0m from St Louis he's not taking less in high taxed Canada. Try more like 7 x $9,5m minimal.

It really doesn't matter what "Pietrangelo" wants. In a flat cap league, and where RFAs are making more money, I don't know of "any team suitable to Pietrangelo" can/will offer much more than 8m.
High taxed Canada....doesn't mean much especially to an American based Pietrangelo.

Kostin hasn't done much in the AHL but whenever I watch he is playing 3rd line minutes on a pretty crappy team. Def a polarizing guy - there are people that love him and people that think he's way too inconsistent. Like Liljegren, he's still one of the youngest AHLers despite playing in the league for a couple yrs already. He is probably gonna get a full time call up this season and likely peaks as a middle six power winger with some skill. His feet are a little slow still but as long as he keeps them moving he's an effective player. Big guy, nice shot.

Sunny is a smart defensive-minded guy and for the money he does a lot of things for a team, including scoring goals. Good speed and gets a lot of chances at 5v5. Fan favorite sort of like a Hyman-type presence. He's played all over the lineup and seems to work anywhere.

I'd def rather have Nylander than the package here, just kinda spitballing on what a Leafs team would look like with Petro.

Thanks for the summary. Back in my university days I could have given that summary about such players on any team, but this whole having a job and being a dad thing doesn't let me keep up to date with non Leafs organization players anymore!

5-6 years? how is any team gonna make that work? I thought it was gonna be flat for like 2 years and then they'll hit their revenue target and it will slide up.

Society needs disposable income to spend on Sports for sports leagues to meet their revenue targets. A lot of people have lost a lot of money of late. Most likely when restrictions lift there will be a short term boost to higher than normal spending from pent up energy. But then if I were an owner I'd be concerned about a fairly significant drop off in $$ as people simply won't have it to spend (at a population level)

Which is why this theoretical exercise on signing Pietrangelo is silly. It's not going to happen.

unless Nylander/Marner/Tavares/Matthews is traded signing anyone over about 5 mil just isn't worth it. It will require such juggling of the cap...

There are enough stupid GM's out there. Tallon was fired, but he probably would have been stupid enough. Someone will offer both him and Hall too much money

Vancouver seems like someone who would totally work their behind off to get out from Erricson and blow it all on signing a 30 year old UFA to only decline again in a couple years

Yea, Benning and his UFA signings have been long term poor value
