Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Athanasiou, Andreas [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 6th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
Both players are rumored to be in consideration for not being qualified but still possess plenty of intrigue. Edmonton needs a defenseman with wheels and Buffalo needs forward help, eventhough AA will be flipped here .
EDM
  1. Montour, Brandon [RFA Rights]
2.
BUF
  1. Anderson, Josh [RFA Rights]
  2. Savard, David
Additional Details:
While the Jackets don’t necessarily need “defense”, they do need power play help and more offense, Ristolainen is one of the better point producers from the blue line and is one of the best PP defenseman in the league since 2016-17 (11th in PP points) The Jackets Achilles Heel for years has been the power play, and they really lack another guy with the ability to run a second unit that would allow Jones and Werenski to play on the top unit with Ristolainen leading out the second group. The team was also very interested in Athanasiou at the TDL but the deal fell through likely because he was an option at center and wing and has blazing speed.
CBJ
  1. Athanasiou, Andreas
  2. Ristolainen, Rasmus
Additional Details:
Buffalo needs a physical forward and a RW, Anderson is both. Buffalo also could use a shutdown top four Defensive defenseman which Savard fills a need, although he’s coming off a down year.

The deal doesn't work for Columbus. At this point, we're better off promoting Peeke in lieu of Savard if we move him out, and using our assets to acquire a real 2C.

EDIT: and if there's a good chance AA isn't qualified, why would we worry about acquiring him in a trade? Especially because he's not a true top-6 talent, which is what we need.

Well Columbus might need to find a new coach if they start making those types of trades. I’m really not sure you could pick two worse players to send there.

No, it's because they can't afford to commit 3mil to the roster spot AA would likely occupy (3LW). They have ~10mil in cap space with the main goals of resigning Bear, upgrading 3C, and adding a quality 1B. It's definitely tight, but it's not like they CAN'T sign someone for 3mil. In the case of adding Montour, he might allow them to move Larsson for a 3C then use the money they would've committed to a 3C on Montour instead.
