The Sens would likely just keep Tierney at that point.
If you compare him directly to Kerfoot, he plays fewer minutes on the (far worse in comparison) PP, actually plays minutes on the PK, has produced a bit better in the past 3 years (0.53 PPG vs Kerfoot's 0.51 PPG), is the same age, and plays with worse linemates (Nylander, Tavares 23% of the time was the most common for Kerfoot vs Duclair, Namestnikov 10.5% of the time for Tierney). So Tierney is maybe slightly better. And then if you compare Tierney to Johnsson, Tierney is like 4 months older so they're roughly the same age... they have nearly the same production (0.534 PPG Tierney vs 0.536 PPG Andreas), Johnsson doesn't play PK, Johnsson gets more PP time, and Johnsson played 60.4% OF HIS TIME WITH AUSTON MATTHEWS AND WILLIAM NYLANDER. Another 9.6% with Matthews and Marner. Tierney gets the Sens...
So individually, he's likely better than both players. He fits in the room already, he's well liked, they get to negotiate his deal themselves now and don't have to take the one they already have, and they know he can turn it up to being a 50 point player while playing with out-of-the-league Mikkel Boedker and broken hands Bobby Ryan as his linemates (which is what he did last year). They can likely flip him for a nice package since his comparables have been going for some wild deals in the past year or two.
So then why would they trade him for two meh lesser third liners while also giving up a 3rd?
