I'd hardly call Spurgeon useless. He's been Suter's crutch for a couple seasons now, there's a reason Suter threw a fit when Spurgeon and Dumba were switched around in the lineup.

Spurgeon is one of the most overrated players on these boards. A statistical darling that on ice performance doesn't back up (just like Rask and Nino before him). If it wasn't for that NMC he was given with that awful contract he'd be the one being shopped not Dumba.
