I'd think getting a goalie would be priority one, no?

It probably is, realistically.

Lots of fans are split on it though, goaltending hasn't been an issue for the Flames in recent playoffs. They don't have a #1, but they've gotten solid goaltending in the playoffs.

The Flames have the ability to add Pietrangelo without performing significant roster surgery. If he has any interest at all, he needs to be the biggest priority. With Gio aging, you don't have a true #1D waiting in the wings. I like Andersson and Valimaki, but who knows if they will ever be able to shoulder the load of a #1D.

I like the idea in theory. That said, it won't happen for all the other factors people rarely address that go into how these tend to go. For starters, they won't exceed their internal cap ie. $7 million AAV set by Tkatchuk. I also am fairly confident CGY is on the bottom half of desired locations and we don't have a McDavid or a winning history to attract FA's so all in all I just don't think it's realistic.

If the Flames want Hall or Pietrangelo, they have to spend more than 7 on them. Who knows if that's the case. Maybe CGY isn't the most attractive place to play, but free agents typically always go to the team that pays them the most, if the Flames do it, they have a chance.

Is ownership willing to pay him the front loaded contract/signing bonuses or whatever it is Pietrangelo wants?

Probably not lol, but they did Tkachuk's deal with more bonuses than they have previously done.

From everything I've heard is that what Pietrangelo is wanting and Armstrong doesn't believe in contracts like that.
Idk, I figure he ends up staying in St. Louis but who knows, maybe he finds what he wants somewhere else.

I don't think many owners will be signing off on bonus-laden deals this offseason, so Petro may have to settle if he wants to go back to STL

Yeah, maybe Toronto or Vegas could pull off what he's wanting but I'm not sure who else could or would want to.

I'll probably end up being wrong here, but I don't think it makes sense for Toronto to sign him. They need to get rid of a ton of money just to make it work, then they need to hope they can get players on league min or close and hope they play way above their pay-grade. It also significantly limits their ability to sign Hyman or Andersen

Oh I don't think it makes sense for the Leafs either,
I just don't doubt that they'll try to land the big fish of free agency.. Lol
