Isles Realistic

Created by: LTL_Rob
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 22, 2020
Published: Sep. 22, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Tried to keep the trades realistic, aka did not trade away bad contracts teams might not want (Komarov, Boychuk, Clutterbuck) and did not trade Eberle away on the assumption that he will not waive his NTC, although ideally Eberle gets traded instead of Bailey. Also kept in mind 2 injury forwards and an injury D cap hits.

Short and long term eberle is the better guy to keep. It’s smart to sell high on baileys playoff performance.

I would hope lou signs toews for more than 3 years

Edmonton's a salary structure can't absorb Bailey's contract. They'd have to move similar salary out, and I'm not sure Holland would make that effort in order to acquire a guy who will be 31 years old when next season begins, and brings a commitment of $5M per for a few more seasons after that.

Bailey has a ton of value, regardless of the Isles cap constraints. I understand Leddy getting less than his worth, but Bailey would go at fair value if he is traded (he won't be).

for the millionth time, Leddy makes 13.5 million in cash next two seasons, you will have to pay someone to take that contract.

I would like to keep Bailey because he can get you 50points but more importantly he really has flourished under Trotz system but honestly some of the young guys are ready to play and we just simply cannot afford to keep all 3 of Bailey, Nelson and Eberle, and I would keep Nelson for the Center role, and Ebs has a NTC so if he doesn't want to go, he isn't going. I chose the Oilers because while yes they would need to work in his salary, they need the help with depth scoring and for some reason Holland seems dead set on prioritizing that over his glaring inefficiencies on defense and in the net.

As for Leddy, I think a team like the Jets who are arguably a great team with questionable defense would get good use out of a veteran puck moving guy like Leddy. He fits the up-tempo style game they like to play, and can take some of the pressure off the younger defensemen. The 2nd might be a bit high, I'll agree with that but since he fits in right I don't think we would necessarily need to pay the Jets to take him, maybe just take a lesser return than what his play might dictate.
