Assuming Boychuks signing bonus is paid prior

Created by: bgainesdm
Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 24, 2020
Published: Sep. 24, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Perhaps the 4th round pick might be too much. A 5th or 6th would be just fine. Cap space is the bigger priority. Melnyk pays much less than Boychuk's cap hit and takes in a B/B- prospect for compensation. Assuming Clutterbuck doesn't get bought out, bring Brassard back keeps their C depth strong and enables him to be a safety net if Cizikas gets bounced from the faceoff circle. Also, since Brassard and Pageau lived together during the quarantine, perhaps Brassard signs for another year but at a higher rate.
Wahlstrom starts off on the 3rd line with a pest and a strong 3C.
Greene re-signs and grooms Dobson for his eventual top pair role by the end of the season. Good chance Holmstrom also gets a 9-game look as well raved about in Bridgeport and by Sweden's U20 about him improving a lot in strength and speed.
Also, don't expect that top 9 to look like that for the entirety of that season.

This would be an ideal scenario, hopefully this is close to what happens

People will groan about Bellows being moved. He's not a bad prospect at all. He's actually quite good. Power forwards do take longer. Just Wahlstrom and Holmstrom have developed in a much quicker overall rate.

I wouldn’t hate this, but I don’t see how brassard gets 2.5 mill with the flat cap. Also I’d rather give Toews more term

Also, since Trotz has shortened the bench occasionally with Pageau - Cizikas - Clutterbuck, Brassars in Pageau's spot is a prototype of that.

I would like to give Toews more term as well but I'm not sure his agent would go for it. 32 regular season points also drive Brassard's price up slightly.

I would give him 4-4.5 to get him signed for 4-6 years. I think he would take that.

I just don’t think the market is there for brassard. At most I can see him getting 1.75 mill.

Issue with Toews is that he spent money during his last 2 playoff series matchups.
Regarding the market for Brassard, look at how much Filppula got in the open market last offseason. It's possible.

Because there's an opportunity for him to get even more long-term dough. Given the flat cap as well as him needing to mature his skillset a lot more, it would be smart for JP Barry to have his client sign a bridge. He's still much less of a complete player than Brock Nelson.

Despite toews playoff performance, he’s a core piece and should be signed long term. I’ve seen isles fans say that mayfield is more valuable because of his contract 😂. Truth is the isles have a chance to sign a defenseman that will definitely outperform his contract , toews market will be 6-7 mill in 3 years.

Ottawa is almost assuredly not on Boychyuk's 8 team trade list. Florida can spent 5.5m better than Leddy. Sorry that's 11.5m total cap stays with the Isles.

Wouldn't be surprised if Leddy got bought out, it's a pretty manageable buyout especially in the first two years of it when the cap isn't moving, depends on how deep the pockets are of the ownership obviously and if they can't figure anything else out but as far as buyouts go Leddy's isn't too bad, isn't ideal but could happen.
Please don't tear my head off, still think Leddy is good but with a flat cap, not a lot of teams with cap space and the way his contract is structured he might not be as easy to move as I originally thought, just pointing it out.. Lol

I don't think Brassard comes back, and if he did I can't see him making that much. I also think Barzy has to make more than Lee. Other than that it looks good! Although I would like Komarov to be exiled

Unpopular opinion: He shouldn't make more than Brock Nelson right now.
