A Fleury in WINter, a NAIL in DP's coffin....

Created by: HCSG
Team: 2016-17 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 6, 2016
Published: Oct. 6, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Heh, heh, heh.

Go ahead, laugh at the puns; no one will know. (Okay, fine, of course they're terrible.)

Soft trades, new scenes, changing guards, etc.

Option to move Nail to the LW side and drop Kunitz down to 4th Line duties, bringing Rust back up with Geno.

Pavalec can be a little hit-or-miss as a starter, but should be an excellent 1b-Back-Up as Murray gets his footing bearing the heavier load of an NHL season.

Nail gives the team higher bonafides in the offensive wing department, assuming a change of scenery and a bowl of Mama Malkin's Borshch can rekindle his goal-scoring some. If not, hey, we didn't lose any of our option there, let him flop off at year's end.

Pouliot just doesn't look like he's got a real chance here.

I'd rather have Pavelec for one more year as Hellebuyck becomes ready than getting Fleury.

As much as it would be good for Pittsburgh fans to capitalize on their value in net, I don't see this being beneficial. The pick is nice but does it matter? I think if you go into the playoffs with 2 starters it gives you flexibility in case of injury or poor performance. If Murray goes down I wouldn't want Pavelec back there to stop pucks

I agree with both ULtraman and LeafsFan. Don't think WINipeg is a good fit for Fleury. Jets would probably protect Hellebuyck in the expansion draft and leave Fleury exposed (same problems as Pens).
Good puns

I think Pouliot has a lot of potential, and it may be a blessing in disguise for him to struggle this year. We don't really need a LHD defensemen with the way our roster currently sits, and if he does show his potential we will likely get eaten up by LV if we find a way to move a goalie. His value will come next year when we let Daley walk, and need a LHD defensemen who can play their offside alongside Maatta.

It does matter because if you wait until after the season you might not get anything and could end up buying Fleury out if he doesn't agree to waive his NMC. WPG would preferably retain a little salary tho. As for the other swap, I'm torn. I do think Pouliot still has the potential to be a serviceable, top 4 NHL defenseman but I'd also love to see how Yak would fit in the Pens speed game.
