hmm, expansion exempt young starting goalie with 2 years term at a lower cap hit or higher cap hit rental?

I'm assuming that CBJ cares more about salary than cap hit but didn't realize Merzlikins was draft exempt. Apparently they're looking to trade one of their goalies though.

Merzlinkins isn’t cap exempt, he’s expansion exempt.... much more important with Seattle coming in next season.

Also to answer your question, we aren’t looking to move one of the goalies, unless it is part of a package for a top 6 center, the only player Toronto has that fits the bill is Nylander.... and I doubt you’re willing to part with him for a goalie.

Expansion exemption is much more important than saving 2m in actual spending for the year. It means you dont have to protect them in the Seattle expansion which is massive.

LOL either goalie with two years left to be UFA is not getting a player anywhere near Nylander's quality. I would probably swap Korpisalo for Merzlikins if that's fairer, but we're talking about two relatively unproved goalies here.

Is it really that important when both of your goalies are UFAs a year after the expansion draft?

Don't really see how that's relevant here, you are offering one that is a UFA next year for on that exempt for a pay difference of 2M. Then you add in Kerfoot, a 3C they don't need that cost 2.6M this year. So basically they are spending an extra 600k to be in a worse situation

I’m not talking about 1 for 1 like most people think.... I’m saying they’d be part of a package to get a player like that.... don’t like it, go else where to get a goalie, we don’t have to or want to trade a goalie.

Right, but only really bad GMs give up players of Nylander's quality for a package of worse players. Definitely not a bad position for the Jackets if they go into next season with their current goalie situation so understand if they only give one up in the perfect deal. Don't think it's happening though.

How is it not relevant?? If there was 4 years left after the expansion draft, would that not increase the value. The premise of the trade is that one extra year of a decent starting goalie isn't worth much more than a player like Kerfoot. Could definitely see CBJ saying that a player of Kerfoot's quality isn't all that valuable given their current forward group though..

That’s exactly it, it would have to be the perfect trade for us to move a goalie and I’m guessing a trade that includes a with Korpisalo, Savard(with an extension) Anderson and our 2020 1st would get Nylander. So you’re not getting worst players but players who fill your teams needs.

I'll be throwing jerseys on the ice if the Leafs trade Nylander for that.
