Back at it again huh. Sharks dont have any interest in dealing Karlsson, and if we did we would be happy to take your two cap dumps but we would need you to give us the actual assets back, not us give you assets!

Yeah, maybe. It wrecks the penalty kill, and takes away a guy who was on pace for 30 goals for the third time in four years. But with better puck movement, maybe more guys get more offense?

Thanks. Yeah, I'm always hoping to be the first to come up with ideas that get done. It's kind of a hobby. So I do post some off the wall stuff. Thanks for your patience.

The funny thing is, no one in this trade is a cap dump, though. Oshie was on pace for 31g 58p this year. His contract carries age risk, but right now, if you could sign him for just one year, he'd cost 7M. Oshie at 5.75M is a good deal. Hagelin did what he always does: skate fast, kill all of the penalties, and play on pace for almost 30 points on a checking line. They're both living up to their contracts. Karlsson didn't entirely meet his, this year, but I'm pretty confident he can get back there. In the 1/3 of a chance that he doesn't, WSH ends up eating 80.5M of cap dump from SJ. Hence, some good prospects. Open to negotiation on which ones, though. smile

Personally I wouldn’t trade Karlsson, I was getting down on him in my mind recently but I read a article recently that was basically saying everyone is mad about Karlsson due to his cap hit etc etc he’s had 2 reduced point seasons but it basically was arguing it’s all blind hatred. They kinda went through his last 2 season real depth and used a lot of stats (primary common ones and than advanced as well). For example the year gio won Norris the article said before Karlsson got injured he was one pace to be a top 3 player in points for d and than his advanced stats were way ahead most guys in the league, first in a lot, and he was clearly better than Gio (the winner) if he kept his pace which didn’t even need to be his points as his points were fine but his defence was actually impressive not bad but very very good.

So I think it’s changed my view a lot.

I understand your evaluations and process as you’re taking on a massive contract, but the sharks don’t make this trade it’s just not worth it and they’re paying extra assets in the end.

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I'm just trying to simplify this Shark fan post: https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1972683

My intitial idea was to make the cap hits match, and give the Sharks back Oshie, Hagelin, Kempny, and Panik as four valuable pieces to help them climb back to the playoffs, but any time you make a trade to a team that missed the playoffs on here, people call your guys names and assume there's some reason you don't want them. I like Oshie, Hagelin, Kempny, and Panik. They're all very good hockey players. They combined for 114 points this year. They could help SJ win more games this year than Karlsson, if Karlsson plays like he did last year. But I would also hope that Karlsson, in a smaller role, focusing on offense, playing with a team that had a lot of success last year, might get back to 60 point form and help the Caps score more goals. So I like all of the players I traded, and I think Karlsson is good. I just think the Caps would be a little bit leery of his contract because last year he got fewer points than Oshie.

Definitely not seeing them taking on a huge contract like Karlsson's especially with Ovie's contract up, could make that one more expensive AAV wise with the Karlsson contract on books..... better off with Oshie and Hagelin and finding RHD elsewhere..... I do like the Jonathan Dahlen angle, find a way to get him and give him shot maybe to develop into a future piece here in DC

Thanks. Unfortunately, I think this was the most realistic way to do that. smile
