Description
Here is some potential free agent signings for the Leafs. Obviously they probably won't add all of these players, but they are some potential targets. Some may go for a bit more money, but these are guys who can fill out a roster nicely. There's lots of depth in the bottom-6 and some great defensive competition and options. I think having a versatile bottom-6 is important. I don't know if they go this aggressive if reforming the bottom of the roster.

Offensive focus- Robertson, Kerfoot, Spezza (I'm assuming he will not dress every game for load management reasons)
Defensive focus- Cousins, Larsson, Hinostroza/Engvall

Gives Keefe lots of options to use in his lineup blender which he likes to do. Kerfoot can also play higher-up in the lineup if necessary and potentially so can Robertson.

Defensively Hamonic will be the best partner Rielly has ever had, even if he's not perfect. It's a short-term deal to give the player time to rebuild his value and doesn't lock the Leafs in long-term. I think having multiple options for that bottom pair will force increased competition and will mean that if Sandin/Liljegren want a spot, they need to beat out an existing NHLer for it rather than just be given it.

I know many will say the UFA amounts are not correct but none of us really know what the market is and with the way these QO's have been walked away from this year it may not take much more than that. Which is why I think UFA's are going to take short-term deals with the hope there's more out there next year.

Thanks for reading, tomorrow should be fun!

I like all these for what they are- add to the bottom depth. I don't know about Hamonic, but you are right, it may not be perfect, but perfect is not available unless you guys the core. I would Wallmark and Fast- though I think Fast will be out of thier price range.

Hamonic will get 3 mill imo so 2.5 is just a little low I think.

Lehtonen, Barbanov and Spezza all make the opening night roster btw so you are going to have to remove at least one defenceman from your bottom two pairings and two forwards from you bottom 6

I think Lehtonen does for sure. I think if the schedule is condensed next year you might see Spezza missing some more regular season games to keep him fresh. So he should be in there now, but might rotate out and play only 75%. Barabanov is more of an unknown and I'd like to see him beat out an NHL player before we give him a job.

I am not sure the Leafs sign all of these guys, they're just targets I like. Hinostroza in particular might prove too rich for us.

I think both of those guys will be. If you're signing one of them I think you're a) guaranteeing middle-6 minutes and b) probably going over the 2 million mark, which they may not want to do. But both are also very useful additions.

Lehtonen I think is going to be extremely better than anyone wants to think he'll be. Non Leaf fans say he's an offensive defenceman who won't be able to play in the NHL but he's a 2way guy who moves the puck incredibly, can contribute offensively and is very good I'm his own zone.

I think he has an excellent shot of being a contributor. I just want to have a safety net in case he doesn't work out, or it's like Igor Ozhiganov where we are kind of stuck with him on the 3rd pair without better options. Again, it may not happen, but it's nice to have depth (especially in case of a condensed season).

Lehtonen is a hell of a lot better than Oz was
