Ideas - Team Sweden Lite

Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 8, 2020
Published: Oct. 8, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Not trying to "Win" each trade straight up. Trying to reset the cap situation, fill some specific needs this club has not been able to address in almost a decade, slot players in places more appropriate to their roles/strengths throughout the lineup, and provide an actual shakeup, not changes around the periphery. Additionally sets them up to build draft capital & rebuild prospect cupboard while staying competitive (if not improving)

BOS: Hanafin & Gaudreau go back to their Boston roots. BOS gets a dynamic winger who is likely able to return to 90 pt plateau when he isn't the offensive focal point. Transforms powerplay. Hanafin is a cost effective option to fill LHD. BOS then can go out and sign Pietrangelo, Vatanen or find help in G. CGY, gets a LW that fits their style of play a bit better and a young, cost controlled RHD they sorely need.

TOR: Frees up much needed cap space to address RHD hole and well as get a young, cost controlled gritty, LW who is the playoff beast they need. As well as a top end prospect and 1st round pick to continue to supplement the high priced core with young, cheap talent.

NSH: Escapes an arbatross contract on a player that hasn't been a good fit for their system. Replaces him with a young, much more cost effective C who scored 20-30 goals a year in his sleep. Additionally they pickup a blue chip goalie prospect who will likely develop better under NSH's system and a player who projects to be a top 6 FWD. CGY picks up a first to take on a bad contract and a player who has the speed and playmaking ability they are looking for and can thrive in the right system, surrounded by players who compliment his style and he benefits from a change of scenery.

OTT: get's a well respected veteran who can still be effective in his bottom six role, is a consummate pro to help mentor young kids for cheap.

Leafs reject. Nylander is a 30 goal-70 point player under $7M in a flat cap world. Not getting him for a third-liner, B prospect and a mid-1st

Bruins take this and run

Carlo and Hanafin are comparable.
Gaudreau is about 60pt better than Debrusk

I will give up Senyshyn and a 2nd for 60pts.

Perfect! Then it's a clear win for both team. Flames get better by subtraction and allocating those resources elsewhere, Bruins get better by 60 points. Maybe they'd be willing to throw in a draft pick (2nd or 3rd) ?

Not at all. They may not "win" the trade, but they were never going to get full "value" (aka what YOU think they should get for them.) This helps the other teams while frees up resources for the Flames to allocate elsewhere and be better long term.

The market isn't as strong for him as Flames fans would like to think. There are only 3-4 teams who would be interested in him/he would be a fit. None are able or willing to part with asset's that would satisfy Gaudreau fans. This allows them to get better through other avenues.

And Leafs fans notoriously overvalue their players. Nobody is lining up to pay you guys to solve your own self imposed cap issues. The Flames most definitely don't want to give up any assets for your rental goalie in a swamped goalie market. And yet.....

So if if we had to add to Bennett and the first, what prospects or picks WOULD interest you. I had Dube or Mangiapane instead of Bennett however your fanbase seems to have the hots for him. What makes it closer??

I think NSH has to decline. They've shaken up their center depth enough, and given the question marks with their current lineup, trading an unprotected 1st for next season would be foolish. I know some are high on Pelletier, but I'm one of the doubters. I see him making the NHL, but not as a top six player.

This made me laugh, coming from someone who tried selling a middling ECHL goalie as "a blue chip goalie prospect". To a team that has Ingram and just drafted Askarov, no less!

That's absolutely fair. (I still stand by Leafs fans thinking the rest of the league only exists to help them solve their self imposed cap issues) That said, Parsons was only in ECHL due to a ridiculous logjam of goalie depth in this organization and is more of an indictment of the Flames ineptitude with developing goalies than of the player. He has the pedigree and talent. With a team like NSH who can develop D and goaltenders, it would not shock me at all to see him flourish. I forgot about Askarov though.

I hear ya, the Leafs proposals on here can get to be a little much. Even when the value is fair, it's so monotonous seeing Kerfoot/Johnsson/Engvall/Bracco/Holl to your team for a pick, hundreds of times.

I know he had 31 goals this year but did I miss all his 70 point seasons?
