Option B - 2 Stamkos

Created by: Deleted_xh2j92
Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 11, 2020
Published: Oct. 11, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
May never happen, but TB needs space to make room for big signings and they are running out of options. I'd trade with them, give 'em a second centerman; some picks.

Again Byron out to Ottawa to help 'em reach Minimum Cap space.

Leave only a 22 man roster; but it's bare minimum in case of injuries.

If TB was to move Stamkos, it'd be for a young future asset that could help them now.

Thinking Kotkaniemi or Suzuki fits the bill. Not a pending UFA C they can't afford to keep.

If stamkos is healthy hes a 40 goal scorer youll have to move a least 1 first. Danault will be a good player for TB, until he demands a big extension next year (which TB wont be able to afford) and walks

I don't know things are tough out there and Stamkos injuries are a concern. Might get it done particularly because no one will want to help these guys at all. I like it

In a TB with cap space I'd agree with you, but they are back to the wall; need money to sign Sergachev and Cernak who aren't cheap. Danault will provide then with the help they need now, and an option if he fits the bill to sign next year with 11M$ available, or trade him out at deadline. With two more picks, they will be all set. Plus in 2yrs, they need to sign Point again, and he won't come cheap. So with Stamkos out, they get space. Brisebois is a numbers guy, he calculates 10 moves ahead.

If they were head injuries, then I'd agree. But I think all of those bad ones have been some unlucky leg injuries...

The guy is an elite player and will cost as much.

If he was a numbers guy he wouldn't have traded 1st rounders for Coleman and Goodrow. He wanted to strengthen the team.

A move like this will unmistakably make the team weaker and there isn't really much more to it. There would need to be some kind of kicker to make them consider this move, and for now there isn't.

Stamkos as a full no movement clause, and he already said he doesn't want to leave Tampa Bay. If he refuses to lift his no move clause, they can't trade him even if they want to.

Tampa are in real trouble with the cap right now. I'm shocked no one tried to offer sheet Sergashev of Cirelli yet. I don't see how they would be able to match.

Understood, but Stamkos COULD move his clause. It's not a slap in the face, but getting the cup without him is not the best thing for a player's ego. Regardless of the player. So if Brisebois can convince him to move on this, MTL may or may not be on his list, but this is a "What if.." like all the Armchair GM teams. Gotta roll with it and think it could be if the chips fall where they need to.
