Pens do not have cap space for Hagelin and still should be signing an RD instead of another forward.

Why wouldn’t Vegas trade directly with Winnipeg to get their first and no salary coming back in this scenario & a better pick?

Schmidt has a NTC and Winnipeg is pretty much a given to be on there

I'm generally opposed to trading Orlov, but he and Schmidt are very similar, and Schmidt has more term at only a slightly higher cap hit. Still, isn't there a way to have both? You don't see Tampa dumping McDonagh just because Sergachev breaks out.

Ouch.

But maybe.

Better: Pietrangelo, Jensen, and Whitecloud would be a great RHD rotation, with Jensen in a shutdown role and the other two piling on points. Since VGK already gave away Stastny, they might not need a ton more cap space, as much as they need good players to fill out their roster on good contracts.

But the rumor is that Winnipeg is in the market for a top 4D contingent upon Perreault being moved. It very well be that Winnipeg is on Schmidt’s NTC but the whole reason Schmidt would be shopped is because we’d want to free up all the cap space for Pietrangelo so taking Jensen negates a ton of value. It would be more beneficial to look at moving Martinez and Fleury then Schmidt at this price. Paying a middle man that has cap (Detroit/Ottawa) to retain on Fleury and then just moving Martinez since he doesn’t have a NTC would free up considerable cap but that all depends on the asking price from the middle man.
