I wouldn't call Soderberg " old " and Chara is signing in Boston or retiring. The first option is more likely.

No

Yikes your comment, Chara is still effective as defensive dmen and good on the PK. Add leadership to that. But the cap hit is likely in the $1M-2M with performance bonuses.

I don't really know for certain...
But he played 68 games last year, averaged 21 minutes, and was a +26.
I think he really doesn't have to skate that much. He is so big and has such long reach, I think he probably just still blocks a ton of shots.

Ik but that was last year, it could very well be another 5-6 months before things pick back up again. He's turned 43 since then. Any minute he could drop off, giving him a raise to 2.25M seems like a lot.

Then again I haven't watched him play so idk anything

There are special rules around 35+ year old contracts - so I'd say that is the age that the NHL defines its players as "old".

I think Soderberg still has some game left in him, and players age differently, but I think in the eyes of the NHL - Soderberg is old.

Chris Chelios was born in 1962 and played until 2010 (he was almost 48 when he hung up the skates).
I think Chara wants to play until he's 50 and Columbus has offered to help.

Yes I know for the 35+ contracts. Didn't know Soderberg was already 35
