Don't really see any reason why Detroit would take this. They don't have any need for these players.

Why would Detroit not want a player who has scored 20 goals three times over the last four seasons (prorated), skates like the wind, kills penalties and is a locker-room leader? I find it strange that Byron is this underappreciated.

I wouldn't do this deal from Montreal's perspective as I don't think the value is there for Byron. Montreal's cap situation is not so dire that they need to move Byron at all costs so if there is no appreciation for what he does the Habs should keep him. If you remove him from the deal its seems closer to fair value as I don't think Weal has any value, but the Habs could also just bury most of Weal's contract if need be so it's not a necessity.
