Description

This trade is way better for Detroit than the Stall trade in dollars and cents. AND they still get a 2nd round pick out of the deal.

Helm - 3M in real dollars this year
Eriksson - 1M + 4M next year
Or
Buyout Louie after this year = 1M + 2.64M over 2 years

Louie is a good candidate for a buyout after this season where Det can save 1/3 of that 4M, so they would only actually need to pay out 640k more in real dollars than they would pay Helm to acquire a 2nd round pick. Detroit will also not be a max cap team the following season, so taking on that cap hit for one year will not effect their ability to ice their full roster.
Detroit takes on 2M in cash for a 2nd round pick if Louie plays both years which is very reasonable if he has a good season for them this year, if not the buyout is a great option and probably the more likely one.

I doubt it. Yzerman has preached multiple times he wants complete flexibility with short deals. Attaching another player only lowers the dump value also.
