I get what you are saying but Detroit feels that they haven't seen anything near Mantha's potential and since he is the most talented player the Wing's have I don't see him going anywhere for a while. If they were thinking of trading him would they let him buy a house in Detroit? They wouldn't be able to sign another decent free agent for years to come. The one thing you didn't factor in Mantha his French Canadian and Montreal fans love their home town boys.
The cap that won't increase more than $1M in an offseason until The NHL's HRR tops $4B for consecutive seasons. That most likely won't happen until the new tv deal is in place in 2021-22 so the 1st significant increase in cap will be in 2023-24. I like Krug and at the start of the season I thought it would be nice to have him in Detroit but honestly I think both Detroit and Boston dodged a bullet there. But comparing Mantha to Krug her come on a 26yr old RFA and a 29yr defenseman who more than likely just signed his last NHL contract.
Take at the link below and tell me Arizona hasn't been doing that,
Drafted by Arizona
I hate doing these because I think the organization plays a huge part in their development but... That just shows me AZ has not been doing that. They haven't drafted anyone worth trading...
Chycrhun and Keller are good, but 2009 - 2016 there is whole lot of nothing.
2016 the year which they drafter Keller and Chychrun, along with 2015 they sold high in the past on Perlini, Turris, but they are bad. I guess my point is Mantha is good and would get a huge return. Arizona hasn't done that because their players stink (with the exception of 2016 Draft), and they sold off their 1st three rounds to make a run this year.
As I said, I hate doing this because it's still early but... *Hayton, chychrun and ketter are the only one with to play in NHL since being drafted in 2016 and hayton has 5 games. 1 out of 27 guys drafted since 2016 - not counting this recent draft cause, no games..
2018 - Quinn Hughes over Barret Hayton*
2017 - Henri Jokiharu over Pierre oliver josesph
2016 - They nailed.
2015 - At #3 they took the worst player in top 10 (marner, provorov, werenski, meier, raantanan) make AZ a legit team.
I hate doing these because.. They draft Marner or Rantanan and actually get better they don't get the same picks. Draft order changes, team needs change, FA signings change....
Point being if they trade mantha to trade him, I Agree it's a terrible idea. If they land a good young NHL player with a higher than he is currently performing at player (debrusk) a young "Sure thing" prospect who is 20-21 and a 1st rd pick. That is a decent haul.
It's not trading Domi for Galchyenchuk.
