Panthers D MacKenzie Weegar and his agent are "disappointed" with how contract negotiations with FLA have gone. A deal isn't close and a trade could be the end result, even with a Nov. 8 arbitration hearing scheduled. Fwiw Mackinnon and Weegar were teammates on the 2012-13 Halifax Mooseheads team that won the Memorial Cup.

Believe Panthers would like to see Timmins or Bowers in that deal. That trade is fairly underwhelming for a top 4 defender likely only getting $4M on his next deal. Joe Sakic is a good general manager but that’s a reach.

It looks awesome on paper, but I think the only way a Weegar trade works for Colorado is if Johnson is going the other way. Before Toews I would have been all over this, perhaps even giving up Timmins, but it just seems like too much now.

That’s not happening. Reports locally before the Toews trade were Jost for Weegar straight up. Everybody likes to crap on Jost but he is a 30 pt guy making under $900k, that’s insanely valuable to cash strapped teams.

You think Jost is worth Weegar straight up? If so I don’t know what to tell you. Those reporters are doing a poor job and should watch these players play. Weegar is a top 4 defenseman and should be fairly affordable. Jost is a bust who’s barely keeping his spot in the lineup with Colorado. 23 points with this loaded team is nothing to call home about. Weegar is worth more and that’s why Sakic went for Toews. Don’t read Tea leaves to much. They tend to be frustrating to watch when reality sets in.

22yr old established forward whose metrics are strong that instead of caving on a loaded teamed carved out a role. Literally by what you commented is obvious you watch next to no Avs games. And if you think Weegar is better than Toews well there isn’t anything to discuss because he isn’t.

I never said Toews was better than Weegar or vice versa. I’m simply stating the fact that cherry-picking the good from Jost is not justifiable toward Weegar. It’s not a fair swap. Period.

Ok you’re entitled to your opinion but calling Jost a bust is a cosmic joke. In the current environment guys like him are worth their weight not in gold but say copper. He is 22 on a 1yr deal at under 900k, can play all phases of the game and if given a chance imo he is a 40pt guy. But everybody craps in him because he was drafted 10th overall, see what some of his draft class mates have done. He forced his way on a stacked team by being willing to do the small things instead of going to the AHL where he would have dominated and helped his development. It’s such a nonsensical take that he is a bust.

To be fair, Jost has never scored 30 points in the NHL. He was on pace for 28 points this year. Also to be fair, he is much better than a lot of people think. They look at his 10 OA and think that if he isn't at least a 50-60 point guy, he sucks. He's developed into a two-way guy and has quite a bit of room to grow but he likely will never be more than a bottom-six guy.

I do like getting shed of Cole and bringing in even more young D except for now you're blocking the left side HARD for Byram. Also, just throwing a LD into a RD spot isn't as simple as it sounds - has Weegar or Toews played RD successfully at the NHL level? I know Weegar is a RH shot but he plays LD.

You being this upset just shows my point further. The guy accepted his QO.

You are definitely off on Jost if you think he's a bust. He doesn't get Weegar on his own (imo), but a good two-way player who still has time to grow the offensive side of his game holds a fair amount of value.

I’m not upset. He accepted his QO because it means he’s betting on himself, your attitude just goes to show your lack of understanding of the current economic environment or of the player. But like I said everybody is entitled to their opinionz

If Weegar was better than Toews then he'd already be an Av and Florida would have 2 more 2nd round picks.
