Well if the jets can keep him they keep him but if he doesn’t want to stay he’ll just go to highest bidder available

I'm not a Jets fan. But Winnipeg doesn't have to trade Laine to the Flyers for a discount price. I realize it's earth shattering news. There's other teams who might be interested in trading for Laine. The vulgarity of it...

Few teams have the cap space in 2021 to sign him tho. Its a 7.5 million qualifying offer. That limits the pool

Farabee + Sandhiem + 1st IS a fair offer remember Laine is signed for 1 year and he has openly said he would sign an OS. Plus his last contract negotiations were not at all amicable so NO ONE is going to give the Jets what they WANT and Laine will still get traded or sign an OS if he really wants out of Winnipeg like some rumours suggest. The Jets definitely take the best offer possible but be prepared to be disappointed cause Laine is not Gretzky or Lindros. He already has a notorious history with contract negotiations and the receiving team would have to deal with extending him.

Go through the list. I've heard teams like Carolina mentioned. They can't afford Laine as they are to the cap with Svechnikov and Hamilton to sign in 2021. They'd literally have to trade one of them to Winnipeg plus more salary dumped otherwise they couldn't afford Laine/Svech or Laine/Hamilton

I remember way back in 1999 Flyers fans told me "we're getting Chris Chelios! He wants to be a Flyer!' I told them other teams may be interested in trading for Chelios. But Flyers fans didn't want to hear it. They were already printing Chelios Flyers jerseys and planning a Cup parade in Philly.

Then Chelios was traded to Detroit. Don't count your chickens before they hatch. The Jets don't HAVE to do anything. But you'll believe what you want to believe.

In all my years of watching the NHL I've never seen a team be in a position where they HAVE to trade a player to 1 particular team. I mean there's the Gretzky trade. LA or Detroit. But even then Pocklington told Gretzky he'd call the trade off if that's what he wanted.

Think about this. If the Jets have to knuckle under and trade Laine away for a lowball offer then why should they even have a team? Are they the NHL version of the Montreal Expos? A feeder system for The rich teams? Like Ottawa?

I am NOT a Flyers fan LOL. Look at a profile before you make assumptions. You are right the Jets DON'T have to trade him but like I said above IF he wants out of Winnipeg like the rumours say, the Jets will trade him for less rather than lose him to an OS. Cause IF he wants out AND he signs an OS the OS will be for like 8+ Mil on a contract that walks him to FA. Cause even IF the Jets match they know he walks for nothing in a could years. And 4 1sts might sound great but if the team that signs him becomes a contender then all 4 of those 1sts could be 25th or later.

Oh you're mistaking me for someone else. I don't think he's getting traded this offseason. Its a long shot at best. But this is capfriendly. Its fantasy! There's no more money to go around. James Mirtle already did the math. Tampa will have to do a few moves but everything is more or less set. Winnipeg IF they trade him wont get value, it doesn't matter on the pool.
The word is out there on Laine, trading is always misconstrued as a deal that fits both teams. It doesn't always, and if traded this off season or next, Laine deal, it wont be for fair value. Winnipeg should never trade this guy but if the rumours are true, they wont have a choice unless they are willing to let him walk in 2 years.

The Montreal Expos did this for years.
Plenty of baseball teams to this day still are feeder teams. Its a thing

That's just it. If Chevy isn't getting fair value for Laine then why not just keep him? Sure it would suck to lose him for nothing when he's a UFA but wouldn't it be worse letting teams know that they can poach your best players for sub par trade offers?

You told me I'm a Jets fan. If Laine wants out of Winnipeg then he'll have to wait until Chevy makes a trade which is good for the Jets. A good GM can't let the inmates run the asylum. Remember when Drouin demanded a trade out of Tampa? Stevie Y sent him home. He traded him when HE wanted to trade him. He ended up acquiring Sergachev for Drouin. Good trade for Tampa, yes?

Winnipeg cant attract talent there. This is no time for ego. I don't think they can afford to let Laine walk for nothing especially if they can get players like Farabee, Sanheim and a 1st. Thats not nothing. You know that.

Where cause I think you are mistaking me for someone else. I said Jets fans have drank too much muddy Lake Winnipeg water. I didn't quote you or make any reference to your name. You just assumed I was replying directly to you. Unless I directly quote you or reference your name I am just making a general observation.

Sanheim and the first is a good start, but Farabee would need to be replaced with something the Jets need.
