It's not THAT hard to keep Panarin

Created by: TheCapPurge

Initial Creation Date: Nov. 11, 2016

Description
Just to really prove the point, I'm not even moving Kruger.

As a poster once said, "You don't move first line forwards unless you have to and you don't move top pairing defenseman unless you have to. You keep both and plug the bottom six/bottom three with cheap talent."

Just keep in mind that bonuses are not applied to this team yet. It's not possible to know whether Panarin will get his schedule B bonus of $1.725 until the end of the season. HOWEVER, Campbell has already played 10 games so he has $500k that needs to be applied to next year. Panarin has played 10 games so he has $200k applied to next year & I'm willing to bet a lot of money that he'll be a top 6 forward on the Hawks this year...so that's (if I'm remembering correctly) $825k. There are a few others like Rosi gets $200k for......20 games.....I think, but let's just round to $2M. So if you take out Dahlstrom, this team could work.

One more thing, whether we believe the news or not...Panarin's looking for a Saad Deal @ $6M. That's what he's asking for so I imagine it won't be higher than that...If reports are true.

Good point on the bonuses, that's one factor I didn't consider. If you run into those bonus issues, then you would need to move Kruger.

I intentionally went over the reported 6M to further prove how it's possible even if you sign Panarin for more.

Just throwing things at the wall to see what sticks? Read exo's comment to get an idea of what it'd actually take to sign Panarin.

All of this and you still get to trade the rights to Panik, Kempny, and Pokka. And you can definitely resign Pokka for under $1,000,000

I've been saying it for a long time, Panarin will get 5.5-6.5 AAV. He'd be smart to take a fair deal and not reach for too much.

I'm really curious what their (Panik Kempny Pokka) trade value is to other teams. I think this is a prime case where Hawks fans might need to adjust for bias a little more than usual in their trade equivalents. Panik has the stats, but not a lot of experience and the eye test doesn't necessarily support the stats yet. He's a strong body that goes hard to the net. That's what we know so far. Kempny has literally 0 points, but he's been a solid defender. Pokka has 0 NHL experience, but a lot of hockey pundits think he could be something pretty darn good. Very odd place for all three.

Yep. You're talking at least a few decent draft picks for their rights, or cheap bottom 6 players.

Bringing Panarin back is very doable, and the roster could look pretty similar to the current roster, except with another year of experience for the young guys.

In my opinion, the people saying it's impossible to ice a good team with a Panarin extension are just rooting against the Hawks/Bowman.

Who knows what the money is for an RFA. Kucherov 4.7m, Trouba, a lot of folks had him for 5 to 6.5m, he took 3m. If the Hawks don't get him a reasonable price (by Hawks standards) does Panarin go out and try to get offer sheets, that may or may not come? (like Trouba). Panarin is older and closer to UFA status so it's not quite the same scenario as Trouba or Kuchervov, but as we have witnessed, RFAs might not get near UFA money as they expected.

Hawk fans and hockey fans are sorta going nuts about Panarin. Let's imagine Panarin had take the "usual" route to the NHL and was a UFA in a few years. And Hawks had no cap space. Most reasonable fans who think, too bad he has to go, but you can't sign everyone.
The Hawks have won 3 Cups in 7 years. And with so many high contracts, $ cap issues are going to happen. What's the worse thing that happens if Panarin walks for nothing?....nothing seriously, , you acquired him for nothing , time to move on from players "lost" like all other teams do. PS, Hawks will likely trade Panarin but not get fair value.

I'm not sure where in that I said that any of them were worth a lot? He didn't resign any of them in this ACGM team which means they can all still be traded or resigned. Can they all be resigned for under $1,000,000? Maybe maybe not.
If so I'd rather have Panik instead of Moose or Kero. Kempny or Pokka instead of Gus, Sved, Dahl.
If not, you could pair two of them up in a trade for a decent forward or D with low salary. Or trade them individually for draft picks.

Simply put, there is more value to be shown in this ACGM post

It was a general statement, not directed at anyone. I would also agree that the Hawks keep Artemi.
