The things you’re complaining about are exactly what’s happening with the team.
DeBrincat is on the 3rd, Kahun is skating with Toews and Saad and essentially getting first line minutes.

Putting Kane with Toews and Saad.
Toews with Kane on the same line has been part of the "nuclear option" for the Hawks for years.

It seems like the first line will start as Saad-Toews-Panik, but I don't think that's set in stone. If Hartman is even better this season, I think he could definitely bump Panik down.
Also, if Bouma outplays Hayden or Wingles, then he'll be on that 4th line. There's no other spot for Bouma in this lineup, he has to beat one of those two for a spot.

Carolina has already stated that they are only interested in moving one of their young d-man for a legit offensive threat, which Anisimov is not. They'd love for the threat to be a center as well, but AA just doesn't fit what they want, even with a prospect thrown in (btw Knott, Fortin are a higher tier than Radke, Louis, Noel while Pokka has little to no value).</div></div>
Jurco signed for $800K, but I'm glad you were able to set me straight. I'm thankful for that.

The Hawks have won 3 Cups in 7 years. And with so many high contracts, $ cap issues are going to happen. What's the worse thing that happens if Panarin walks for nothing?....nothing seriously, , you acquired him for nothing , time to move on from players "lost" like all other teams do. <strong>PS, Hawks will likely trade Panarin but not get fair value.</strong></i></div></div>

Yep. You're talking at least a few decent draft picks for their rights, or cheap bottom 6 players.
Bringing Panarin back is very doable, and the roster could look pretty similar to the current roster, except with another year of experience for the young guys.
In my opinion, the people saying it's impossible to ice a good team with a Panarin extension are just rooting against the Hawks/Bowman.

It's not possible to know whether Panarin will get his schedule B bonus of $1.725 until the end of the season. HOWEVER, Campbell has already played 10 games so he has $500k that needs to be applied to next year. Panarin has played 10 games so he has $200k applied to next year & I'm willing to bet a lot of money that he'll be a top 6 forward on the Hawks this year...so that's (if I'm remembering correctly) $825k. There are a few others like Rosi gets $200k for......20 games.....I think, but let's just round to $2M. So if you take out Dahlstrom, this team could work.
One more thing, whether we believe the news or not...Panarin's looking for a Saad Deal @ $6M. That's what he's asking for so I imagine it won't be higher than that...If reports are true.</i></div></div>
Good point on the bonuses, that's one factor I didn't consider. If you run into those bonus issues, then you would need to move Kruger.
I intentionally went over the reported 6M to further prove how it's possible even if you sign Panarin for more.

Brutal. Why wouldn't he just spend an extra 1.5M and sign Panarin? hahaha
Panik and Hagelin are combining for 8.5M on this roster, you can't tell me there's no room for a Panarin deal.
Plus if Schmaltz can stick with Toews and Kane, there's no need to worry about paying another top6 forward until after the 18-19 season.

This is how I look at it as well. Moving Hossa to Kruger's shutdown line means even stronger defense, while adding an offensive element. It guarantees you have at least three lines you can roll (two that can take d-zone starts).

That bridge came after a 37 point season, it's a totally different scenario with Panarin. A $3M bridge is completely unrealistic.
That being said, I also don't know why the Hawks would do a $6.25M "bridge".

Extreme line balancing

Is this the best for the Hawks? I personally think that top line isn't nearly strong enough. Panik has only played 30 games for the Hawks and was with the Marlies last year. This is expecting a lot from him. I do like your 2nd line though. Hino can really benefit.</i></div></div>
I don't think it's what's best for the Hawks, I just wanted to see how this would look. I'd like to see them start the season with:
Schmaltz-Toews-Panik
Panarin-Anisimov-Kane
Desi-Kruger-Hossa
Hinostroza-McNeill-Kero
I know that first line is a little risky, but I'd like to see it stick together for the first ten games, Hossa can always move back if Panik takes a total dump.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BombSquad</b></div><div><i>Well done in achieving your goal. This is line balancing to the extreme and very interesting to see. Also a perfect demonstration of why NHL teams don't partake in extreme line balancing lol</i></div></div>

Toews gets put on the opposing teams best line.</strong> One of the best aspects of his game is taking on the other team's #1 center and doing a great job at it. I hear ya that Hossa is declining. Maybe he's best suited next to Kruger. That worked pretty well in the playoffs although that was only 1 series. Why not make three lines good? Panarin/Toews, Kane/Anisimov, Kruger/Hossa.
Definitely agree with the trades though. If Kempny is the plan going forward no reason to have Gus in the AHL. Get something for him.</i></div></div>
Also, how does changing what you consider the number 1 line adjust how the opposition matches up? It doesn't.
Teams already match their top shut-down unit on the Kane line, so in theory, that's already the top line. The only way to change outcomes through line adjustments is to actually adjust line combinations, not just argue semantics.

I think we see Schmaltz at LW on either Toews' or Kane's line. If Q decides to split up Kane and Panarin, moving Panarin up to line 1, then I could see Schmaltz filling that 2nd line LW.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div><i>Seeing that they won't be able to make many moves. I think you HAVE to separate those three for a few reasons. If Panarin want's big money then he needs to prove he can be a player that makes others better rather than getting the benefit of playing with the Hart winner. It would also make it harder to reach that bonus again. I'd make a few small tweaks, but it probably won't matter because Q rolls lines soo much. Schmaltz hasn't said whether or not he's going back to ND. So if he doesn't sign then swap him with Vinny and put Motte on the top line. Motte played great @ worlds and blocked a lot of shots. Q loves that. I'd swap Kempny and Gus, but if they didn't work out I'd swap them right back. I'm hoping Shaw could get more than a 5th even with Bickell's contract, but maybe not.</i></div></div>
Thanks for looking at this and not immediately crapping all over it. It's not ideal to go this route, but something similar may be necessary if this team wants to roll four lines.
I included Schmaltz because I'd hope the opportunity to play with Kane would be enough to lure him from college. If not, then the possibility you suggest could also work. Like you said, Q will probably love Motte, but I didn't want to put him on the 4th line.
I put Gus with Seabrook because of all the #fancystats analysis BlackhawksBreakdown has done about that pairing.
I'd really hope for more than a 5th too, but hopefully a 5th is the worst case scenario.
