That NJ deal is bad for NYI. Even though it saves cap space, that defense is BAD without Leddy.

I like the idea with the NJD trade with the cap dump but Leddy is a bigger part to their Defensive core than everyone thinks. And you have to give up a third for someone you aren't playing. The islanders are in a win now mode kind of. They'll peak in the next couple years and start to go down a but 3 years in the future. Boychuk doesn't hurt them but giving up a 3rd is not very productive.

No team is taking on that Boychuk contract for Leddy and a 2nd round pick not enough value there. And the Islanders are in no position to give Mike Hoffman that contract. Pulock will need to be resigned by 2022 for a lot more money and term.

Leddy has value but nj isnt taking 11.5 mil for 2 years. Winnipeg also says no. We dont want hoffman but duclair would cost a lot less and puts up similar production.
