trade markstrom! Part 1, Season 1

Created by: gmjim1
Team: 2016-17 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 14, 2016
Published: Nov. 14, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Philly has a plethora of young D-men, and the worst goaltending in the league. Markstrom is cap-friendly and an upgrade on anything Philly has in the NHL. Stolarz is good but if he was ready, he would be in the show already.
Colorado was shopping Landeskog before, whether he's available now I don't know, but a top pairing D-man of Tanev's age and cap hit is fair value for a top line LW

Good moves if they can be made. Demko is our future Goalie but may need some more time to develop

No way they trade one of their top prospects for a fringe goalie. I'm sorry Canucks fans but Markstrom is a backup, he would be lucky to get the return that Reimer did

Markstrom has a better GAA and Save % than Freddie Andersen through his first 7 games (Nucks have points in 5 of those games). Nucks and Leafs are similar echelon teams right now (bottom third), so yeah, I'd say Marsterom has proven he's ready to be a starter (ka top 30 goalie in this league)

Andersen was coming off a league leading GAA (sharing the Jennings trophy) and he received the 30th overall pick and a 2nd round pick. Sorry but not a A prospect. If Philly wanted to get a goalie I'm sure they could easily get Fleury or Bishop (who are much better) with that package

So last Season:
Markstrom: .915
Mason: .918
Neavirth: .924

This year:
Markstrom: .915
Mason: .880
Neavirth: .870

But lets make a quick rash decision on the first 10 games of the season? Not smart.

Need more than tanev. They were not Shopping Landeskog. The duck offered Lindhom for him and the Avs were interested in that move if they could obtain another fwd of his quality for Barrie.

So no this deal isnt good enough and is incorrect in your assessment of what Colorado was trying to do

Honestly, Andersen played alright in Anaheim, but he was behind of a strong defensive lineup. He came to Toronto and is playing behind a weak defensive lineup known for causing stupid turnovers in their own end and allowing a crap tonne of shots and is showing how he really plays. He's doing alright, considering most of his shots are coming from high-danger areas, but compared to how Reimer was doing last season in front of an even worse defensive core just shows the value of what Andersen really was. I'd say the value for Markstrom may be a little high, but not that far off. He alone could fetch possibly a second, a fourth and a B+ Prospect. That trade is good.
The Landy trade, although they aren't actively shopping, I'm sure they'd move Landeskog for the right price but Tanev and a fourth is not the right price. You're going to need to do Tanev - who has been underperforming this season statistically - and possibly a good prospect or young forward. I'm not good with Vancouver that much, but I'm sure that Virtanen and Tanev for Landeskog and possibly a mid to low round pick or a low grade prospect. Landeskog is valued not only for his scoring, but does have good defensive knowledge and the most attractive thing about him, aside from his physical edge, is his locker-room presence.
