Happy for the cap space, devastated about the circumstances that gave it to us. Eye injuries are brutal, best of luck to him in retirement. Would love to see him back in the FO some day soon

I would fire Thompson right now and make boychuk the head coach despite no coaching experience. He couldn’t be any worse

He didn't have to be good at one particular thing. He was a very good all around player. I'd love to know how he was rated, because I'm pretty sure everyone considered him a strong #3 defenseman in his prime.

People in boston seemed to think he was a legit number 2 that was playing as a 3. I think he was a really good 5, and a solid 4. In his prime, I wouldn’t really be thrilled to have him play a second over 20 minutes. He benefitted a lot by spending a good amount of time paired with chara.

No, he was really good defensively and was at his best during those Bruins years. There's a difference between overrated and loved. Sure it's a 20-man contribution but you aren't winning if McQuaid/Kaberle is playing on that 2nd pair.

He was average at best defensively.
