I'm probably never going to get over that trade unless Toews is an absolute bust in Colorado.

And then I'd be even more sad.

Same, I hope both 2nd me absolute stars and Toews succeeds in colorado

Best case scenario for sure.

If we're able to get under the cap this year and actually use those picks to draft with, that trade might not look too bad at all.

Hate to be that guy, but those two 2nds will be used to trade for Travis zajac before the deadline

It was a terrible trade for many reasons. The thing is as long as Lou/trotz are here they will not draft a player with toews skillset and defenseman like that rarely get traded. I’m praying they give Aho/MVS a fair shot.

You're probably right. If Zajac helps us win a Cup though....

With the flat cap I doubt anyone is paying for that contract. BEST case scenario they get future considerations for him. It’s j how the hockey world is rn

As has been said, Gards is not as bad as people think he is. It's not like he's a liability on the ice or anything, part of why his production was down is because Carolina's d core is so freakin stacked that he was on the 3rd pair and playing those minutes for most of the year. I honestly don't think the Canes want to get rid of him, nor should they if (for some reason) they have to pay draft capital to offload his contract. Leave him unprotected next year and if Seattle takes either him or Skjei, then you keep the other one and still have some wiggle room to sign Dougie and Svech

ha true - I just think this was a disaster of a trade short and long term.

The isles still have two top pairing caliber D and dobson (who should be a #1 within a few years) but I will never forgive lou and trotz for depriving us of a toews-dobson pairing. Could you imagine that pairing on ice the with beau-barzal-eberle. They'd have 90% of the expected goals...
