Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 30, 2020
Published: Nov. 30, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I expect all of the contract year veterans like Bjustad and Bonino to be traded at the deadline during 20/21. This would let the wild see what they have with a lot of their young players like Beckman, Khovanov and Boldy while freeing up a lot of cap space.

Is Petterson worth 4 - 1sts. I would argue yes. a legit "true #1 center" and a team of solid young players following him with budding 'stars' such as Fiala and KK in the wake.

Also I don't know if Vancouver will be able to match since they'll also be needing to give new contracts to Quinn Hughes, Gaudette and Demko with 24m total cap space. Matching it would mean Hughes Gaudette and Demko split 13m in cap space and they would still need to field other players.

making a deal with Seattle for Dumba - probably get a 2nd or something in the deal or maybe another prospect, but this would give the wild cap space and keep it as one of the best D core's in the league. Also this would potentially give the wild an ability to contend before the likes of Suter and Spurgeon really start to decline while letting Menell and Addison play.

All in all gives the Wild a very young team with a lot of promise and a very experienced D Core to lead the way.

The cap is just broken for MN if you do that. You've got 6 guys on the team that would be rookies with little to no NHL experience, and 3 other players making less than $1m/yr. Khovanov can't handle the KHL, and Rossi can't kick the COVID to get time in the Swiss league to see if he can play against less than AHL quality men.

Canucks match. Petterson is priority number 1 for them and he’s an (arguably) top 5 center in the league, which means that number is probably the baseline. Hughes is going to get less than people expect given his RFA status and if keeping both means letting Gaudette go, so be it. If the Wild want to exploit the cap problem in VAN, they should look at Demko.

Offer sheets are really the least of your worries with Petey. The kid is gonna get a max term 11 mil deal, and if he doesn’t he should hold out until he gets it from VAN or some other team.
