I think the Ducks are going to do the same with Zegras that the Kings do with Turcotte (though Zegras might be closer to NHL ready), play under 6 games, play in the AHL to maximize minutes, and keep both teams in the hunt for a top 5 pick.

I absolutely think Comtois should make this team. Fire Derek Grant into the abyss if that's what it takes, but he should be on this team playing in a top 9 role.

I agree. But i really like Grants game. Not sure why the Ducks are so adamant on playing Backes.

I think you're probably right, but I hope not. Otherwise, what was the point of getting Shatty? Obviously I don't think Shatty pulls them from the abyss and suddenly makes them a threat to storm up in the division, but it seems like a dumb move if you're not going to try to put your best team on the ice every night? If he's not on the roster, I assume it'd be more of a "There's a whole lot of forwards that are going to need a roster spot, or we'll risk losing them on waivers" situation, where there's no room for him right off the bat, but I really think he belongs on this team, than it is a "The AHL and it's extremely truncated season is a better option for you" situation.

Agreed...maybe GMBM hopes that if he plays him a bunch right off the bat, he'll inevitably end up on LTIR?

Ah well, I guess the Gulls will be fun to watch (If that ever actually happens).

I thought Shatty was a good move considering the ducks are particularly weak on that side (not a fan of Manson), and not necessarily an indication that they have changed to compete now. There is an argument that the ducks have done a quick rebuild and have already obtained their future #1 center and #1 defenseman. But I think they aren't done yet, Getz, Perry, and Kesler have left big holes, but Steel and Zegras are definitely steps in the right direction.

I don't know...unless they move Manson, I could honestly see Shatty as a guy who doesn't get protected during the expansion draft (unfortunately).

Considering Zegras is playing wing for Team USA and we're deep at center, plus potentially getting minimal training camp time, I can't imagine he makes the opening night roster in the center position. Not to mention I hate the idea of Steel on the fourth line. (and Backes in the lineup at all)
