Description
Hello All - and mods I know this isnt the right place for this (so I saved a copy) but I really wanted to just get it out there where I know there is an audience because I think we could all benefit from this if it were to happen!

Ok so to make this really quick: I think that EAsports and 2K and Madden need to lower all of the ratings by like 20 and spread them out a bit more so that different level players really feel different. - There is no reason my line of 93 SNP - 94 TWF - 95 PLY should be putting up 60 point seasons while an 85 overall grinder has 90 points... And there is no reason my "franchise" projected player should end up worse than a High top 6 guy. So here is my example using the bruins just to make it easy for me to do:

Brad Marchand 80
David Pastrnak 79
Patrice Bergeron 78
Jake DeBrusk 68
David Krejci 69
Ondrej Kase 65
Craig Smith 66
Charlie Coyle 67
Anders Bjork 64
Nick Ritchie 62
Par Lindholm 55
Sean Kuraly 60
Karson Kuhlman 54
Chris Wagner 58
Greg McKegg 55

Charlie McAvoy 77
Matt Grzelcyk 67
Brandon Carlo 69
Connor Clifton 56
John Moore 57
Jeremy Lauzon 60

Tuukka Rask 79
Jaroslav Halak. 71

Prospects will obviously be lower (35-55 area where a 35 need a few years to develop, a 45 needs like 1 or 2 years, and a 55 is nhl ready, but obiously on the low end)

With Marchy (or pasta or both) being an 80 overall (the lowest franchise rating in my system), a player like a crosby would be an 88 in his prime. A guy like McDavid would be an 86/87 rn and could get better (who knows how much better he is gonna be)...
Ultimately: This allows a guy like Gretzky (98 overall in his prime) to feel like a BEASTTTTT, Mario (96), Orr (95), other legends (90-94)...
Then when you play a franchise mode in any of these games, you can have a draft where the scouts are like "yo this guy has the chance to be a generational talent", then they become ""MEDIUM GENERATIONAL"" - and it will actually feel like you are drafting a Brett Hull or a Jaromir Jagr rather than what it is now where you get just another guy that becomes a 92 overall, scores 80 points, and leaves... (they will be few and far between of course, but will be fun anyway)

I think this would make franchise modes that much more fun cuz like you could literally be drafting a legend (oh and the points breakdowns will make more sense too)

.... here is a team of the oldest guys in the league (or not anymore)

Turn up the attribute affects slider to 9/10 or 10/10, find a nice slider set (Al-Tito's is giving me some solid results), and your life will be much happier.

The leading scorers in my franchise (after 40 games) are all the usual suspects.

Agree. Don't know why EA does this with NHL, when they're much closer to your suggestion with FIFA

Lowering them by 4-5 too create a real contrast between current players and legends is much more realistic and plausible, 20 is ridiculous imo.

love the concept but putting some of these guys at like 65 is a bit much

Lmao fair, the 20 was more to give legends a reallll legendary feel.
Spreading them out more was kinda my secondary idea. the main point was leaving space above a guy like Marchy for real legends

Fair... I would like to clarify that the skill level will also be adjusted. Its not like they are going to stink, the gameplay will feel pretty much the same, it will just make it so that someone who IS a 90 overall will feel like it.

Yeah, there's a lot better separation between players. The difference in player speeds starts to actually mean something, so, with certain guys, you can burn the oppositions D (Or they can catch you flat footed). The size effect one is also golden.

Gonna definitely do that. So that accounts for my secondary concern which is spreading the ratings out.
However I still stand by lowering the ratings then by a decent amount so that you can have REAL LEGENDS

I think there's definitely a need to revamp the overall system, as well as the overall potential system. I'm not sure 20 points is the best, but the run-of-the-mill third and fourth liners should be in the 70s (75 being replacement level). Then you can have generational players (Crosby, McDavid, Ovechkin) in the 90s, elite tier 85-89, and top six forwards 80-84. I think this gives you a better spread of talent for generational and elite players to perform at high levels.

I think the potential system is pretty broken too. If you're going to have any success in franchise mode, you have to have most of your lineup be Top 6 F+, Top 4 D+, and Starting G+. There's plenty of guys in the league today that are solidly bottom 6 potential players, but the odds of you having a bottom 6 potential forward in your lineup and having success are pretty low.

I also like the idea of the chemistry system, but it makes it too easy to game the system, IMO. They tried to make the chemistry system harder by disallowing editing players white in the franchise mode, but a line up of player types like the lineup below would at least give you +3s across the board:

SNP - PLY - PWF
SNP - PLY - PWF
SNP - PLY - PWF
GRN - GRN - GRN

It also kind of sucks that you can't see what PP/PK unit your players fit best while in the edit lines screen. Additionally, it kinda sucks that you can't edit your strategies for your coach to better fit your lineup, so if your coach retires or doesn't return, you are stuck essentially rebuilding/retooling your roster unless you come across a perfect fit in staff hiring. Seems unrealistic to me that a coach wouldn't adjust strategies to better fit the roster in front of them. If they're going to keep the chemistry system intact, they should make sure it lines up across bulk calendar sim, slow sim, and in game situations. I think that would make for a more fluid experience.

On top of this all, goaltending performance in franchise is an absolute crapshoot. You could have a 90+ overall goaltender, and they could post a sub-.900 save percentage every year, and then you match up against a team with an 81 overall goaltender in the playoffs who puts up a .940.

I love the idea but don't you think that EA will base retirement off of age and overall. So we would see half the league retire first year. Other than that I think that it is a very well thought out idea. Kudos to you

I don't know...I think people put a little bit too much stock into the "Overall" that a player has. I guess I'm probably not a good one to discuss that with, given that I couldn't give too shakes about having legends in the game.

Just give me roster sharing and I'll be happy as a pig in s#it.

I mean, that happens in real life though, right?

Great example: Sergei Bobrovsky for the .900 save percentage, and Thatcher Demko, who just about stole the show in the playoffs last year with a .985 save %.

I'm a firm believer that if you find a slider set that you're comfortable with, you'll see the numbers reflected in the stats.

I mean, that's true, but it should be a pretty rare occurrence. It shouldn't be regularly. I can't count the amount of times that I've seen 79-81 overall goalies in the Stanley Cup posting outrageous numbers. I like the slider idea though, I'll try that out.

Yeah, it works really well. The attribute effect slider creates a lot better separation.

Sorry i should clarify that the threshold and skill level wont change much, the game will recognize 65 overall guys as 2nd liners, 60 overall guys as 3rd liners, etc... so they wont retire. obviously a 50 overall 32 year old might retire cuz thats a 2nd line AHL guy... but its really just to increase the upside.

Lmao all true. Its too bad cuz its a fun game but there are simple issues like that which could probably be solved fairly easily that would make it much better.

And yeah in my franchise mode last week the Maple Leafs won the cup with Jack Campbell as the starter (80 overall)

Just playing devil's advocate here for the fun of it, but there was once a Stanley Cup finals that featured the goaltending battle of a lifetime! Niemi vs. Leighton!

I think there's enough examples of mediocre goalies getting hot at the right time to show that it certainly happens. Heck, Cam Ward made over $54 million in his lifetime, and won the Stanley Cup. Guy was average at best. The year he won though?

Regular season: 28 GP, 3.68 GAA, .882 save %
Playoffs: 23 GP, 2.14 GAA, .920 save %

True! Of course anything can happen! But that should be as rare as getting a franchise player in a franchise mode and truthfully it happens a lot more
Idk its too much variability... who knows lol
