Detroit declines. A garbage 4th liner, two AHLers, a late 1st and late 2nd round pick in 2022 does not get one of our core players.

Quantity does not equal quality.

Even though the offer is good, this set the rebuild back as we are trading a core player for an unproven player future picks and players who do not improve the lineup now of for the future. Bertuzzi is a core player who I think Yzerman really likes and wants to build around.

He’s not on the market and those pieces are a gray fit for us as we have Hronek + Seider for RHD and 4th liners can easily be found in FA. A late first rounder doesn’t have too much value either for a RFA. We’d be talking Sandin or potentially adding to get Nylander as Detroit’s biggest weakness is LHD + C.

It’s a solid offer but Detroit just isn’t interested in trading Bertuzzi.
