Initial Creation Date: Dec. 11, 2016
Published: Dec. 11, 2016

Description
It's been reported that the ISLES want a top forward for Tavares. JVR is a perfect fit and the leafs don't want to hold onto him and have to pay him top dollar when they'll have all their young guys to pay.

Well not quite. First you've underpaid Brown,Hyman and Zaitsev. JVR: He does have a least a partial NTC. And the perception that the "don't want to hold onto him", may or may not be true. He might leave as A UFA but that doesn't mean you don't want him on your team trying to make playoffs or in the playoffs. All teams have pending UFAs, but that doesn't mean all UFAs are traded.
I'll agree with in the summer of 2018, JVR will sign elsewhere, cause the Leafs will have cheaper alternatives than him, and there is a cap issue with Matthews, Marner, Nylander and maybe more wanting big deals soon.
Regarding the trade. I think it is to much for the rebuilding Isles (I assume they are rebuilding) to give up for 1.5 years of JVR, especially if Pulock is considered an NHLer.

gave those guys a little more, but not a big deal. I think the leafs would be dumb to not pull the trigger on a deal like this. There's a loophole in this league where players in their prime are forced to get payed nothing, need to exploit it by trading older guys like JVR for similar talent on ELC's.

I understand that some guys get underpaid on their ELCs, but guys signing for so little could attract offer sheets. It's guys that want and maybe deserve 5m plus are difficult offer sheet signings cause the compensation is so much (especially a lottery team with cap space)
I kinda like the trade for the Leafs...two potential good NHLers for a guys with 1.7 years left in his contract. Just disagree with he has to be traded. UFAs come and go all the time. Thinking that a more likely scenario for JVR would be going to a Cup contender team that needed help at LW. For instance the Ducks and the return would be a young Dman.

Ryan Strome is a big if at this point. Seems to be on a steady decline since his softmore year. He definitely wouldn't deserve to be stuck right onto the top line.

Strome is a high risk to be a bust right now. So I would honestly say no to this unless a more proven player is added.
