To me this was an overpay and not worth the value. Trading a next years 2nd to move up a few spots isn’t worth it in my opinion. The positive of this move is that we got to pick twice in the 2nd round and got two solid prospects.

At the time, this was seen to be an overpay. But looking at this trade now, it looks great for the lightning as Goodrow is a cheap, effective winger who meshes well on the 3rd line. I also don’t see a huge difference between Groshev and Wiesblatt.

Additional Details:

Similar to the Goodrow trade, this was seen to be an overpayment but this move proved crucial for the Bolts Stanley cup win. Coleman is one of the best 3rd liners you can ask for, especially with his contract. Although Foote and Mukhamadullin have bright futures, the price was worth it to get Coleman.

Montreal fan here.
I've had eyes on Finley for months prior to the draft and that trade crushed my little heart, Finley's a poor man's Byfield but their draft spot makes Finley way more interesting from a Montreal fan POV. Purely looking at the value of draft picks Montreal couldn't refuse this basically free 4th round pick, Farrell should be playing in the NCAA this year but at the very least he is absolutely destroying the USHL at the moment.

4th rounders have a -statistically- 22% chance to play in the NHL, obviously they were hyped up on Finley (With good reasons) but in the end it's a calculated risk that you hope your team wins. On the other end Montreal is winning no matter what with the picks value.
