Initial Creation Date: Mar. 1, 2021

Description
Time to bite the bullet and just Buyout Vlasic and Jones. Maybe we can move another large contract to Seattle and then use the Cap space to take on some cap distressed assets with sweeteners.

Unless we find another way to dump one of them, probable yes to Vlasic, but pass on Jones for now. We can live with Joner even if he doesn’t turn it around. Can just buy him out when the buyout penalty isn’t as harsh.

Vlasics buyout is absolutely terrible. Sucks but only way you can get rid of him at the moment is through trade. Maybe MTL could work some out with price. Idk

Jones I’m all for. Although tonight he looked great. Stopping 33 of 35 shots to the best offense in our division. Hope he can build off it.

He looks like the real deal and is outplaying Bobby and it’s not close! I’d love to bring him over!

I wouldn't buy out Vlasic that early the penalty is just so brutal given the structure of the deal.

Agree entirely with this. If you're going to bring in a legitimate goalie like either of the two here to compete with him and take the #1 spot (rather than an equal like Dubnyk) then you can live with Jones as a backup or AHL demotion (if Melnichuk is perceived to be ready to play in the NHL) and buy him out later or just ride it out. The issue with Jones is that he's not a #1 but neither is Dubnyk so both are playing more than they ordinarily should be on a better team.

Vlasic on the other hand just flat out needs to be jettisoned anywhere. He is not NHL caliber even on the 3rd pair right now so getting rid of him from the roster is imperative to get new blood in there (Pasichnuk, Merkley, Meloche, etc.) just as much as it is to get the contract off the books.

The worst the Sharks can do is half measures. Vlasic just looks cooked and finished. If he cant defend then he is useless to San Jose. He might have one of the 5 worst contracts in the league because he has a NMC and is certainly not a top 4 D man anymore. I'm not even sure a Price or Skinner trade would even work and 50% retention for 5 yrs just makes no sense.

Jones this under 900 save % has gone on for 2 years now. i just dont see him turning it around to a 915%. The other players on this team deserve NHL quality goaltending which Jones cannot provide. i dont think attaching assets to move contracts is the right way for SJ. If we could get even league avg save % this team would be in the playoff conversation now.
