Eichel is a 24 year old center with a top season of 82 points. Kuznetsov is a 28 year old center with a top season of 83 points. Kuznetsov has one more 70 point season (edit: than Eichel. Three total), and has led the NHL playoffs in points. Kuznetsov's cap hit is 2.2M lower.

Lapierre has 18 points in his first 11 games back in junior this year. He was projected as a top five pick, but got hurt a lot last year. Seems to be back on track.

This is ten times the return ROR got, and ROR is a more complete hockey player.

eta: The Caps beat NJ last week with Eller filling in at #1C. Can Buffalo beat NJ with Eichel at #1C? Kuznetsov+Eller is an overpay for Eichel, without adding anything. Buffalo adds a max retained Staal, and gets no picks/prospects on that.

There’s literally no way ur serious lmfao. Kuzy isn’t a even a top 20 centre anymore, he’s 28 and certainly isn’t living upto his contract. Eichel is a bonafide 1C a 24 and locked up long term. Kuzy is not even the 1C on his own team. Buffalo would block Washington’s number if they got sent this offer

I read an interesting article on The Hockey News website about a possible Eichel trade: essentially, the market is going to dictate what the Sabres would receive. While many Sabres fans would love to receive a Byfield, a Zegres, a Lafreniere, the likelyhood of the Ducks, Kings and Rangers being willing to deal any of those three is extremely slim. The Sabres are, unfortunately, in an extremely difficult position. I do not have a horse in this race, but I honestly think that, if Eichel does request a trade (honestly, he hasn't yet and there is no telling if he is even interested in being traded), he may not fetch as much as everyone seems to think he will.

I am by no means saying that he is not worth it. But everyone also has not taken into account a salary cap system that has been severely affected by Covid: with a flat cap, this deal will likely also have to involve the Sabres taking on money. A deal for a bunch of high level prospects or other $10 million dollar players is extremely unlikely: there is just no way teams that have $10 million dollar players either a.) want to trade them, or b.) are being pressured by those very players to leave the team.

To suggest that this is a bad deal for the Sabres, or that they could get more, is essentially being ignorant to the many other variables at play when determininga trade.

It's not a fun position for the Sabres or their fans to be in, and I empathize with that. It hasn't been fun there in a while and I know that's awful. Better days are ahead: just by the laws of probability, they have to be. smile I am rooting for them! smile

John Tavares isn't a #1C on his team, and William Nylander doesn't play 1R anymore.

Eichel is slightly better than Kuznetsov, slightly more consistent, and four years younger. That all makes him a lot more valuable, but unless you watched the 2018 playoffs, you have no idea what Lars Eller means to Caps fans.

No reason to rush McMichael. I could see a two for one in the offseason if McMichael makes great strides, but right now, giving up both their middle six centers and not ending up with enough cap space to add any of the available replacements? That could hurt the Caps' playoff chances this year. I don't think they consider dealing both Eller and Kuznetsov during this season without getting back two better centers, let alone adding to that foolishness.

What happened in the 2018 run doesn’t mean anything in a present Eichel trade. In order to get Eichel you’d have to give up a major portion of your farm and solid players. Lars Eller might be even good in the 2018 run but he literally has no value in an Eichel trade. The caps would take this and runnn

If the Caps were a playstation team, yes they would. Eichel is the "most valuable" piece in this because he's as good as Kuznetsov, maye a little bit better, and four years younger.

But the Caps are all-in to win the Cup before Ovechkin potentially hits UFA. They need center depth. Eller+Kuznetsov is a non-starter, during this season, unless the return is literally either Matthews or McDavid.

Right now the Caps' depth chart of proven centers is: Backstrom, Kuznetsov, Eller, Dowd. They don't have a fifth one. You're telling me that a team can contend with a center depth chart of Eichel, Backstrom, Dowd? That's only three centers. If you can't count to four, you must get a lot of those "too many men" calls.

You seriously want WSH to try to win the Cup with just three guys who have played a season at center? Gimme a break. Tampa won last year with like, six or seven decent centers.

I guarantee you that any team would rather have Eichel than Kuzy+Eller. U gotta realize that kuzy plays on a team with stars and Eichel plays on a terrible team. And plus, I don’t think Washington are contenders, they’re only 5-5-3 against teams that aren’t Buffalo or New Jersey
