offseason Barkov Trade

Created by: Lightman13
Team: 2021-22 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 8, 2021
Published: Mar. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In the event Barokov does not want to sign an extension with Florida, MN trades for him. Giving up a top 4 D, likely 1C replacement in rossi, a top 6W in either boldy or beckman and supplemental picks depending on whether it's boldy or beckman that would go.

1C-2C punch both of whom should be selke finalists this year and a wing for each that can score at a ppg pace in fiala and KK I think this would set up the wild to become contenders still within the suter/parise window, but would also set the team up to extend that window as their and zuccarello's contracts expire.

With an offseason move like this the wild do 7-3-1 expansion draft protect, zucc, parise, fiala, ek, foligno, greenway, barkov - brodin, suter, spurgeon - Kahkonnen. Leaving hartman/rask/soucy/talbot exposed. would expect seattle to take soucy

Next offseason:
resign barkov 7 yrs 8m
resign greenway 2 yr 4m (would lead to zuccarello contract expiring and with parise/suter coming off the books in another year, would set up the team to pay their RFA's such as addison and Boldy/Beckman who would be on 2 year bridge deals.

FLA declines, not because its a bad deal, I just think he's untouchable.

Or Elite goaltender Cam Talbot.

I really like your way of thinking, but I think its hard to give up 5 assets for 1. Plus, I think Florida would want Fiala in any trade. Plus, resigning Barkov would be a necessity, and I think that would be hard to guarantee. And most teams are going to hang on to a player of Barkov's stature. Unless, they can't resign him and trade him as a rental, which lessens his value considerably.

Yep he's in that tier of player. I just know he wants to be on a contending team and figure if florida tails off and misses the playoffs somehow he'd be wanting a change of scenery and a situation like the one I laid out would set him up for that possibility.

I agree it's a lot to give up as the wild, just that the pieces they have in the pipeline- addison/mennel for defense and the boldy/beckman - being NHL ready and 1 year from the big club combined with their current 21-25yr old core finding their game would make it acceptable to do a trade like this and still be a solid defensive team with a solid forward group that can contribute up and down.

I like it. Would you do the same trade for Eichel if he is available this off-season?

I would do slightly less for Eichel. He's on a much more expensive contract and isn't as defensively sound as Barkov (clear selke favorite), even if still a clear 1C. Slightly less would be like, the later of the wilds 1sts and not a 3rd, but like a 5th. maybe sending back Rask too for cap balancing.
